Guest guest
Hi Caroline, I am a very mobile and active person with CMT. I have no problems in London. There are a lot of stairs - and few elevators - on the tube. There are extensive bus routes but a lot of traffic. The buses are more accessible. There are others more impacted with CMT who have travelled through London who may be able to share more with regard to their experiences of public transport. With regard to medical care, my experience is that my care is phenomenal and world class. I have a confirmed genetic diagnosis for CMT and am a patient at the National Hospital for Neurology in the neuromuscular clinic. I am eligible for all of the research projects, which is very interesting and leads to good medical access. Reilly and her team are amongst the foremost experts / researchers on CMT, especially CMT1A. The weather. Well I am not sure what to say. The weather is cold and damp in the winter - and dark - and the summers pleasant (although sometimes chilly) and bright. Everyone experiences different impacts due to weather. Personally my feet get cold. I hate that. But I can manage it. I spend a lot of time in Ugg Boots from about October until March, and then as soon as I can I am in Birkenstock sandals. That is my signature I think, for commuting anyway. That and my trainers (tennis shoes - I wear Reebok ultra neutral running shoes with orthotic inserts). I hope others will share their experiences with you. Good luck! Donna from London
