Did you see the video I put up this morning on this forum. I have all these

sproutgarden trays going at the same time. Several are in my home made cooler,

and the others are in my igloo cold keeper thing. And on my shelves I have

popcorn, peas and sunflowers and chia and flax growing.

And earlier today my landlord's 4 year old grandson came to visit. I proudly

walked out into the back yard saying " look at my popcorn sprouts " (they are

getting TALL), and the little guy's eyes were wide open and even his father said

" That's Popcorn??? Really? "

And thus began another sprout lecture. I then brought out my sunflower shoots.

We had another sprout lecture.

Oh, I brought my popcorn sprouts to breakfast this morning. I was like a mad

magician, I had them all covered and I whipped off the cover and said 'Behold

Popcorn Sprouts " and there was all ooohhing and aaahing and I had some of them

taste them because they didn't believe how sweet they were. They now believe!!

My husband even likes them. Can't believe this.

lol

though. Why would there be a need to toss out the rinse (not soak) water each

time? Since I'm only working with one batch, could the water be saved for the

next rinse?

As you noticed, , I was referring to rinse water, but my soak water does

go into my garden. I have several pots and hanging basket on my front porch that

gets that water. Water is ecpensive where I live.

ew

Re: Sprouts Turn Brown UPDATE

I respectfully disagree, but I guess it would be a matter of preferrence. I

checked the pH of my soak water once and it was highly acidic. I personally

don't use it. Rinse water perhaps, soak water, no for me.

I don't because I use tap water. I drink filtered water. Because of the cost of

generating the filter water, I don't soak or rinse with it. Tap water here is

not bad, but there is a lot of sand and tiny rock. I am contantly cleaning the

faucet screens. But if worse came to worse, I would drink it.

HSN has a nice filter thing that is really easy to set up on your kitchen sink.

I use only spring water for cooking or drinking or sprouting, but the filter is

great for getting rid of much of the stuff that is in municipal water. You can

flip a little switch to go from regular tap water to the filter, which sits

beside the sink...I also have their filtering shower head in my bathrooms-BIG

difference in the way the water smells-gets rid of that horrid chlorine smell (I

am allergic to chlorine, so I am super sensitive to it)

Thanks very much.

I like videos because I'm a visual person. I learn by watching how others do

stuff. It's not enough (for me) to read instructions. But if I have

instructions, and then I can SEE how it's done, well there you go.

That's how I learn.

Funny story to share. Years ago, (way before I married Alan) I bought this

thing that fits behind the toilet bowl in the bathroom. Really big, with shelves

and everything. I saw it in the store all assembled and I said 'wow, I can put

my shampoos, soap and everything that is underneath the cabinet, well I can put

this on all the shelves ON TOP OF THE TOILET BOWL. I mean, this thing was 6 foot

high and made for great storage. I buy the box, never dreaming it would be hard

to assemble.

I take it home, open the box and there were hundreds of pieces. I look at this

thing, I sighed and took out the instructions.

Well!!! you should have seen my face. All I read was 'Slot B will fit into Slot

2-1 " . Slot A will fit easily into Port 102 " And sure there were instructions

but I NEEDED TO SEE SOMEONE DO THIS IN FRONT OF ME.

I remember calling up my boyfriend at the time and telling him what was

happening. I remember saying " What the h is Slot B into Port 102, etc. "

After he stopped laughing he said 'I'll be right over "

He never looked at the instructions.

There he was on the floor just picking up the various pieces and fitting them

where he KNEW they would fit. Now I'm not stupid but I never understood how

people can KNOW stuff without first seeing others DO it.

So in five minutes I had my bathroom stand up behind the toilet bowl and I'm

just staring at it saying 'how the h did he do this? "

I'm still of that mind.

I have to watch a thing before I can do a thing.

lol

Melody

P.S. Now you know why I make my videos. People like to SEE how it's done. At

least I do, lol

Thank you Charlotte:

I don't want to be chewing cellulose.

I think I'll make patties tomorrow.

I'll make a video.

I might make quinoa flour in my vitamix and use that for the patties.

Lucy,

Let me walk you through what I do. I put two rounded tablespoons of seeds into

the growing chamber. I take this to the sink and run water through it to rinse

off any dust. I then put the growing chamber into the outer cup and half fill it

with water, to soak. 8 to 12 hours later, I dump off the soak water ( I put it

in my outside garden). Next I give them another quick rinse and shake, then set

it aside. 8- 12 hours later - normally I do the rinsing first thing in the AM

and bed time. Depending on what you are sprouting, you may continue for five or

six more days, or stop after two.

The Easy Sprout has a little ledge that holds the growing chamber up, so that

it can continue to drain after you've shaken as much water out of it as you can.

When the sprouts are ready to harvest, I drop them into a large mixing bowl and

swish around to get off hulls. Then into a salad spinner to get moisture off of

them. Then I wrap them in a cotton kitchen dish towel and let them set for two

or three hours to get really dry. Into the fridge and start another batch.

Tonight I harvested some French Garden. I didn't want to wait up, so I put towel

and all into the fridge to handle in the AM.

ew

Re: Sprouts Turn Brown UPDATE

EW,

I put 2 tablespoons of seeds in the Easy Sprout, set it at an angle for 5

minutes or so, then shake. I'll try it again with just 1 tablespoon of seeds.

Thanks for reply.

After watching a video, I still want the written directions.  I hate bad

instructions.  Some things are easy to look at and go together.  I just put up

2 shelf  units.    It was easy.  I did get stuck a time or two on the first

one and the 2nd one I had done in a jiffy even though it was a week later.  I

just had to figure out the first one.

Have a big cabinet now to put up and have put it off.  Hubby has had some of

the pieces out of the box and that worries me as sometimes he loses things.

This is big so my neighbor was going to help me. If Dave feels well and has

patience, he can help but sometimes he can't.  I am usually good at putting

things together with directions.  have husband and stepsons who often don't use

directions.  They try to use more power and sometimes break things.  I have

taken things they were trying to fix and look at it well and turn it around and

put it together without all the extra power.  It is mind over matter rather

than power over matter.    I have to think it through.  But some things are

bulky and need 2 to do that.  I should attack that unit tomorrow.  It is to

put my countertop appliances in so I can get to them quickly (in sunroom) and

don't have to dig in closets, etc. and I can get out Vitamix or crock pot or

food saver or the things that

go with food saver in case I leave that on the counter.  There are too many

appliances and too little cabinet.  And too little storage when one doesn't

have a basement.   It is one of those put together things from Lowe's.

yOU ARE right that there are no perfect places but they do have tornadoes there

often and they seem to be bad.  But that is OK, AR,MO, KS, etc.  TN has been

bad too.  I really haven't done much in LR.  My husband's sons indicate it is

a bit dangerous or at least is in Northern LR.  They are more redneck, pardon

the sound of that, but they think differently than we do about some things and

the type of things they  do.  I miss shopping in groceries, for clothing and

all kind of things in AR.  I thought LR would be a lot better.  I have gone to

Conway and sort of liked that area a bit at least for shopping and

restaurants.  We do have some nice restaurants up north though.  They are

smaller but nice.  There are several around Greer's Ferry Lake.   I think

your medical situation is much better there as well.  Searcy isn't too bad for

medical.  We drive there for medications many times as we go to CVS and there

aren't a lot of them around.

Sure is beautiful country there though, isn't it?  The lakes and rivers are

beautiful and then there is the National River which is Buffalo River.  I like

the Ozark Village with all the old crafts and skills and the music.  Mountain

View is nice too for the music and concerts.  But it is a long way back at

night from seeing a concert.

Not too far from Branson and that is a nice place to visit and see shows.

There was a dinner theatre in LR but then when i  have been there before, I

have heard nothing of it.  I really don't know what kinds of entertainment they

have in LR area.

Good luck to you.  I hope things go great for you there.  Only things we

didn't like were the distances from places and not much between and also the

lack of medical assistance in some of the areas that are not right in a big city

and there aren't too many of those and the mosquitoes.  People where we were

were friendly but they are often from elsewhere and they hold open doors and

always speak to others, really nice people.  AR has had some people who came in

from Louisiana though that are a bit of a drug problem.    Seemed to be a

good place to retire for most people.

Hey -

Shopping is the other thing I miss here in Little Rock. We have a few

medium-size shopping malls/centers, but they don't seem to have many stores I'm

interested in. I'm doing most of my shopping on-line and look for websites with

free (yeah, I know it's paid for somehow) shipping. In CA I rarely had to make

special trips to get what I needed - I'd just go on the way home from work or

another errand. Much more convenient.

Our medical services are supposed to be pretty good here because of the

University medical school. There are a lot of doctors. That's probably who is

buying all the new homes in West Little Rock - way too expensive for me and a

lot of new areas. I do live in West Little Rock - just not that far. I've met a

lot of people who are driving down here to Little Rock/NLR to work from places a

little farther north. And Conway seems to be doing well; they have some shopping

and restaurants there that we don't have in LR.

I grew up in Oklahoma and Kansas so the tornadoes are not terrifying, but

unwelcome. So were the earthquakes in CA. Is there a perfect place?

I am going to add here, that for me, I found that my sprouts did better if

they all received fresh water instead of pouring from one container to the

next at each rinse. Like I think I said in an earlier post, I put cold

water in each container, let sit just a few minutes then let the water

drain out pouring water into a gallon jug to water other plants, then I

prop the inner container up on the ledge of the outer container and let

drain that way for a bit then shake them to remove more water.

The skin gets slick and it is not a water softener?  Might the city have a

city-wide water softener?  Never heard of slick water that wasn't water

softener.  Not sure about the water then.

Have to get them off the cars son as they have some residue that is  had o get

off the car if it isn't done soon.  They die by the twos as they couple and

then cars smash into them.  That is why they re called love bugs.
