Guest guest
I know this has been discussed recently but my sleepy brain cant get the search option to work well this am. It brings up all sprout related messages. I have started using a small desk top fan to help my sprouts stay cool. The draw back is that the top of the sprouts start to dry up and turn brown. I can soak them at rinse time and they seem to rehydrate well. My question is how long is optimal to soak at this time? I have been doing about 30 minutes. I don't want dry sprouts but at the same time I don't want to drown them either. Thanks! R
Guest guest
, does the fan actually cool the area? (I would think it would just serve to reduce the moisture.) What kind of sprouter are you using? I lost many test batches in an Easy Sprout due to browning when I first started sprouting last month. I'm beginning to think that it was due to the sprouts getting too dry on top when the mass (broccoli) started to get bigger. I really spun/tapped to the extreme. I'm having much better luck with the Sprout Garden, but I do either rinse them more frequently or mist them occasionally because they seem to dry out quicker. I'm lucky to be home to supervise them (lol). Can you put your sprouter(s) in a cooler a la Melody? Guest guest
The problem I have with shelving with AG is that the shelves are not high enough for the raising lids. I have to redo one of the shelving units as I can't see the 2 on the top shelf so I need to get them down lower. The lower, I think, is where they are supposed to be which means that only 1 shelf on each unit is tall enough to put the aerogarden on and it will be a bit difficult to get 2 on the same shelf but think I may be able to. I'll use lower shelves for sprouts and for starting seedlings for outdoor plantings or for microgreens. I think maybe some sunflowers and maybe peas since they are supposed to be sweet. I like sweet. . I do have the " wall farm " that aerogarden sells, but it takes up more space than the white shelves, which are inexpensive and easy to put up. > > The aerogarden sells a 3 tier shelf wall for the aerogarden. Could do the same with building shelves whether for AeroGarden or for sprouts. It would have taken less room than I have taken but I am short so can't reach the top anyway.  Could even put a see through shelf in the opening and could see the sprouts from both sides. > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > > ________________________________ > > To: mailto:sproutpeople%40yahoogroups.com > Sent: Monday, June 18, 2012 4:30 PM > Subject: Re: dry sprouts > > > >  > > > > Do you have any bare wall space? Guest guest
I truly think that these people think it's more complicated than it actually is. Perhaps someday they might do it. But for now, I get such a kick out of them liking my sprouts, I don't care. We're talking little ziplock bag of sprouts that are full of green things. It's like they are alive. Oh wait, they ARE alive. lol Melody
