From what I understand, CMT is a peripheral nerve disease which means the nerves

other the the brain and the spinal cord. I don't know where I heard or read it

but the information I had gotten at one time was that ALL the peripheral nerves

are affected by CMT, its just that the symptoms are most commonly notices in the

extremities.

My eye doctor said that CMT can most definitely cause eyes problems whether it's

light sensitivity like I have or other problems like drooping eyelids, the eye

rolling when tired, etc.

Now I wouldn't say that CMT causes some of these problems that are being

discussed here but my own feeling is that CMT can worsen the symptoms because

the nerve energy isn't there to compensate for it. Also, the damage to the nerve

might make it more sensitive or susceptible to further damage.

I too, have excellent teeth, which I attribute to spending my (literal)

formative years in Eastern Montana where the water has so much natural flouride

in it that it is almost undrinkable. HOWEVER, when I have had to have a root

canal (due to a cracked tooth) it is impossible to get me numb. I've had a dozen

shots of lidocaine and still feel it. It has been nice for me to hear that so

many here have had the same problem because I know I'm not the hysterical type

and I generally have a very high threshold for pain. My dentist thinks I'm a

cowering whimp, which I have become in the dental chair! I do consider that my

weirdness around dental anesthesia when I otherwise don't feel it when I'm

injuring myself is probably related to CMT. I don't think that my cavities, root

canals or lack of them is related to CMT.
