Guest guest
Melody, On the Organic Gardening group that I am on there is a man raising Tilapia in an indoor aquaponics grow bed. He is not an apartment dweller though. I have seen articles of others doing this that were apartment dwellers and there were issues. R. > You have Tilapia??? Guest guest
There is a man a couple of towns over from me that raises tilapia in those blue plastic swimming kiddie pools-very cool setup indeed! I have a friend in Florida who is building a fish farm in a garden shed-he is also going to raise tilapia. I went to see the man raising them here a couple of years ago, and I entertained the idea, but have never gotten up the nerve, lol. I did buy a 300 gallon aquarium with that project in mind, but I have a LONG way to go in my research. I also would like to raise shrimp and/or crawfish. Bill, I would LOVE your input, and you can email me offlist if you like. > > > > > > > > > I reckon that is kinda confusing sentence. Guest guest
I, on the other hand, am likely to do just that! Guest guest
Again, I agree with Melody! We use colloidal silver (homemade) and GSE (grapefruit seed extract) as natural antibiotics-we use them for everything. I haven't needed a pharmacy antibiotic in 20 years! My daughter (age 17) has NEVER had an antibiotic-silver and/or GSE work for any type of infection. > > > > > > > > > : > > > > > > Look what I found on youtube. Guest guest
My understanding of it when I was contemplating raising them, is that a small tank won't cut it...I had the same thought, do just a few in a smaller tank, but something to do with the waste they create, ammonia, etc. made it not so easy, which is why I bought a 300 gallon tank (that and the fact that I got one heck of a deal on a brand new one at an auction, lol) Hopefully Bill will chime in and set us straight, but I don't think it can be done in a smaller tank. Same with shrimp I think-they need a certain amount of water flow. I was told that even with a bigger tank, I would only end up with enough for a shrimp cocktail, lol! BUT.....I THRIVE on breaking " rules " for such things, so go for it! If you get two fish, let me know and I will join you for dinner! I will bring wine and bread! > > > > Carolyn: > > > > I can assure you, I'm not RAISING ANY FISH, nor am I putting in any pools. > > > > lol > > > > Melody > > > > > > >
Guest guest
No, both are very inexpensive, especially compared to an rx antibiotic! We make our colloidal silver, but you can get it at any health food store for under 10 bucks a bottle (last I checked anyway) DON'T believe any hogwash you hear about silver turning you blue-total bologna, but people not familiar with it will say such things. That comes about from some people who went overboard using it when it first came out in the 70's-their skin took on a bluish tinge, and the pharmaceutical companies jumped all over the chance to trash it. Carrot will turn your skin orange if you consume too many, so don't believe that if you research and find that type of info-silver is safe, effective, and affordable, which is exactly WHY the pharmaceutical companies don't want you using it! Silver is routinely put in newborn babies eyes at just about every hospital on the planet-mainly because it is so effective and gentle, and kills any bacteria the baby may have gotten in the birth canal. GSE is about 10 bucks a bottle too, and a bottle lasts forever! I use Nutribiotic brand-available at the health food store. I use it for cleaning and disinfecting my kitchen, carpets, in my dishwasher, etc, and also use it internally-GREAT stuff. GSE (citridiol) is the main component in what our soldiers take to other countries to disinfect drinking water. Good stuff! > > / Melody please tell me more about Silver and GSE.... Guest guest
Carolyn: Seriously??? lol Melody > > Do you have a 2nd bathroom with a tub in it? That might work for 2. What happens when the female has 1000 babies? i don't know if those are eggs or if those are kept in a pouch and then come out of the patch when hatched or if they are born. Not a mammal but a fish. But your bathtub would be filled with all those babies. Could sell off a few fingerlings maybe or the breeding couple and raise your own breeders. Bit crowded for an apartment. >  > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > > ________________________________ > > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Monday, June 18, 2012 4:17 PM > Subject: Re: my very first sproutlings... > > > >  > > Can you picture me (in my apartment) with a 300 gallon aquarium with fish swimming around? Guest guest
yOU CAN probaBLY get them for $5.99-$6.99 per pound at the store. I think it would cost you more than that in electric, food, etc. Carolyn Wilkerson  ________________________________ To: " sproutpeople " <sproutpeople > Sent: Monday, June 18, 2012 9:21 PM Subject: Re: Re: my very first sproutlings...  Cant wait to see it.
