Guest guest
This is from a friend of mine who has a dtr with autism. I remember she mentioned to me once not to put on Depakote so I thought I'd pass it along. Don't know how it might affect boys. Sherry I was told that girls are no longer prescribed Depakote. It has a high rate of correlation with PCOS: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. In fact, _______sonograms of her ovaries show TNTC .......too numerous to count! the number of tiny cysts. PCOS is then highly correlated with excess weight gain, excess hair growth, and...............yikes, diabetes. Three different endocrinologists told me that her PCOS is probably from the depakote. I do not know if it is still prescribed for boys. As to other side-effects, the only one I know of someone actually having any is a girl who went to school with _______ and her beautiful hair was coming out by the chunks. Mom said it was definitely the depakote. That is why I mentioned that I would stay away from it if possible.
Guest guest
wow you guys are really scaring me - has seizures every day and we started on Keppra at the advice of his Pediatric Neuro Dr.Kovnar - it reduced his seizures from 8 clusters of 20 or more seizures in a cluster , to maybe 4-5 seizures all day - but he then reached the limit on dosage and we had to add another med. Dr Kovnar added Depakote. His seizures are not yet gone and we continue to reduce the keppra and increase the Depakote. He chose these based on the type of seizures has and the least amount of side effects , according to him. Now I am concerned. Dr Kovnar said keppra has the least, followed by Depakote, followed by a ketogenic diet (which he said can have very bad side effects , putting your body into a diabetic state) if these do not work, the next step are meds that cause cognitive and physical delays - william is already profoundly delayed. I guess I need to call Dr.Kovnar for some reassurance. Thanks Kel ---- cynthiamiltonburns wrote: > , I agree with Margaret. Depakote was prescribed for but the side affects are really dangerous. Guest guest
, What about trileptal? or Naltrexone? Those are meds used for seizures that may have a dual affect for some of our kids. Because they are supposed to help self injurious behaviors. does not have seizures but they were prescribed for him because of behaviors. They did not help his behaviors but other people have had better luck with those meds. cyndi B > > > > > > > > > > > > >1a. > > > > Posted by: " mfroof@ " mfroof@ mfroof > > > > Date: Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:52 am ((PDT)) > > > > > > > ><<So far no side effects from the Depakote and I was told that it might > > > >even help > > > >with his hand flapping. >> > > > > > > > >Hi, Everyone.........Depakote made Gareth's hands shake and quiver so > > > >bad that it made it difficult for him to use a pen or pencil in school. > > > >He'd shut down because his hand would shake so bad.
