Guest guest
Do you know about STAR and the developments of the project? When I spoke with Dave and last month, I learned that in just 7 months of HTS (high thoroughput screening) thirteen (13) compounds were identified as potential treatment for CMT 1A. Of course more compounds will be tested and tested further before human trials begin. The HTS process offers accelerated research capabilities in that the compounds tested are already approved by the FDA. For more about STAR and the different phases of the project go to http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/STAR.php In Germany, researchers are working on developing a non-toxic progesterone antagonist. In addition, a rat model for CMT 2 has been developed and is awaiting research priorities. Researchers worldwide are working all together on treatment and arrestment of CMT. And this research is ongoing. You can find more at http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=charcot+marie+tooth & pg=1 Gretchen
Guest guest
Why does this seem to get longer? I thought 2 years. Can't happen soon enough. 10 years is a long time. Guest guest
hello Gretchen In the 3 to 5 year Star project - what year are they in? I thought I read somewhere that the HTS was to take two weeks. How long is this process supposed to take? I realize you may not know the answers to these questions so I probably also e-mail CMT Association. Thanks for all your help over the years. All the best
Guest guest
Hi , So nice to see you again STAR, I believe is in year 2, with the stable line of schwann cells made, transfered to the US, where HTS started last July. HTS will test thousands of compounds, (good for us) to sort out the possibilities in the next 5 to 10 years. Gretchen
