Guest guest
What a wonderful week!!! I forget how old Ian is, nathan is 16 and is also going through a funny, joking and sarcastic streak. hmmm. Maybe a boy teen thing, as his little brother is even worse right now at 15yrs of age. Even his teachers have commented on it. Example, when i pick him up from the workshop or school i always ask him how his day was, and he answers " fine, ok " , then I ask him what he did today, sometimes it takes a couple repeats before he catches on to what im asking but then he goes through his schedule as he has it memorized, school, pe, lunch, work. then i ask him what he ate at lunch and he went chicken, chocolate milk, cookies, cake, candy " and i was like what? (he doesn't eat candy) and he laughs and goes " just kidding, just kidding " and then on one of our blizzard days, early out ofcourse a little guy just about got hit, and i was upset i yelled at this little guy about needing to use the crosswalks, and nathan was all wound up from the excitement, and goes " oh my god, son of a #$@# " perfectly clear and very loud, I dont even know where he learned that word, the only swear word we ever use on the rare occasion is s--t. But for the most part nathan too like Ian has been very funny, teasing and joking. shawna In a message dated 3/1/2008 1:41:40 P.M. Central Standard Time, ckc@... writes: .. Guest guest
Hi everyone, We had Ian home last week for February break, and it was wonderful. It was his longest visit yet, 8 days. I had him choose the pickup date and the return date, and he was fine with it when he had to go back. I think part of his ease came from our appointment that week with the ARC, during which we discussed transition plans for his return to our area after he graduates in June 2010. Until then, his return was kind of foggy -- now he knows we're taking actual steps toward it. So he went back to Pathfinder Village happily. I will be visiting him in two weeks. His new meds are working well for him. After all these years of my suggestions, they have finally diagnosed him as depressed, and have put him on an anti-depressant, which has been helping enormously. His mood is upbeat, he doesn't break into his old tapes as often, transitions were better, and we could reason with him, even bargain with him (if we listen to Mommy's CD now, we can listen to your CD on the way home). This last bargain, in particular, was necessary because we have come to hate his choice in music -- Olivia Newton , nice though she is, pretty voice that she has, all day and all night can come to grate on one's nerves. Ouch. We went to a few movies, ate out a couple of times. One day I took him over to the college to make copies for my course which started last week, and we were in the copy room for close to two hours. He was bored, but didn't give me any problems. He was great. And he's just so funny. One day he walked into my room and saw something in my hand that surprised him, and he said " What the---. " He says things like " oh, this is going to be fun " and " I don't think so. " He's developed quite a sarcastic streak. When it comes out of his mouth, with his innocent face, it just seems so wrong we have to laugh. He continues to come into our bedroom every night at 10:30 just to say " well, well, well, it's 10:30! " (For those of you who don't know the story -- before Ian could tell time, whatever time it was, to him it was 10:30. We used to joke about it. Then one day, after he'd learned, he walked into the room and looked at the clock -- it was really 10:30, and he said " well, well, well...it's 10:30! " We laughed so hard, he continued to do it.) Hope all of you are well. CK Mom to Ian (2/89), (9/90), and Rose (6/94)
