Guest guest
<<Did he actually have Tourette's or was that the wrong diagnosis? Does he have DS as well?>> Hi, Everyone........Yes, Gareth had DS also. Officially, it is DS/Autism/OCD. As for the Tourettes.....I don't know. He doesn't have the facial gestures that he use to do and and the non-stop grunting. I think so many of these disorders are overlapping in nature that it is hard to figure out some time. As for your son, Jake, is he dual dx, too? If he is a 'normal' kid, I would definitely get him checked out by a psychiatrist. At 15 y/o, kids have enough problems adapting in HS without peers making fun of his outbursts. If he does have T's then educating him and his friends is a must. <<This group is just one virtual giant rubber room.>> LMAO......ain't that the truth!!! Happy Birthday, Dylan!!! WOW..nine years old!!! JMHO....as far as antidepressants go. It's been many yrs now that doctors have known about the chemicals that relay in our brains and make our brains work. The stigma of needing medication for your brains is very, slowly going away. I don't take antidepressants, but my DH does for anxiety attacks....complements of his Mom. Yes, it is hereditary and she hid it for yrs....too ashamed/afraid to seek the proper help. The last 15 yrs of our marriage has been so much better because she finally got the help she needed and has been on meds since. I can't even begin to tell you all the horrible MIL stories aimed at me and Gareth and his behaviors and " if I had only loved my son he wouldn't be the way he is today " ....on and on and on she would go. Now, if we can drop the stigma of our kids needing meds for their anxiety/behavioral issues, then maybe they could cope better, too. I suffered for yrs with the 'guilt' of having Gareth on heavy duty mind drugs meds, but a psych said to me " What is MY problem? If G needed insulin, I would give it to him. He needs meds for GERD and I have no problems giving him those. Meds for our brains aren't any different. " Take care, Everyone. Margaret **************Ideas to please picky eaters.
