I just got my coir block in and the kelp concentrate.  You don't use kelp for

the sprouts do you?  I figured that was for the  microgreens.   How many

days after starting the sunflower seeds until you begin eating them, Melody?  I

think your mat will be less messy than the coir.   This was strange as the

package was by the door when we came home from church.  It wasn't there

yesterday.  Of course the shipping was not cheap but didn't expect it on a

Sunday.  I guess I'll be freezing my sunflower seeds after I open them the

first time.

When I read this post again, (I had commented that I wished I could weigh down

my peas on the sure to grow mat), WELL!!! I had a lightbulb moment. I said " Why

can't I? " and I did. Just made a video and it's uploading to youtube now. If

this works, well, my pea shoots will really STRONG!!! LOL

I got my bottle of liquid seaweed fertilizer.  It was about 1/5 the size I

thought it would be from the photo.  But it is one pint instead of a gallon.

But it is to be mixed in water and  the pint makes 64 gallons.  It is

Norwegian kelp, cold water processed.  I got it where I got the coconut

fiber.  The block makes 2-2 1/2 gallons of  potting medium.  It says it

retains more water than peet does.  I'll have to find some old hose to filter

and wash the coir.

I don't use kelp for anything sprouts or microgreens. So far, just the coir and

the mat. The mat is very new to me so they haven't shot up yet but when they do,

boy oh boy, will I make a video.

When I grew the leaf lettuce in the pot on the windowsill EW said to use kelp as

a fertilizer. I didn't have any kelp in the house so I made my own (sounds

stupid I know) but here's what I did.

I had some dried seaweed in the house. I reconstituted some of it. I then took

some of the liquid, mixed it with the coir and the darn thing GREW in the pot

very nicely. I then harvested the green leaf lettuce. I'm like the Maguyver of

sprouting.

lol
