Guest guest
Becca My son has migraines and CMT but I never considered them related. Maybe they are. He needs to sleep if he gets a migraine sometimes for an entire day. Lori From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 6:55 PM Subject: migraines/cmt/ gastric bypass Hi Becca here. Guest guest
Hi Becca,I I have snus migraines and suffered from regular migraines for a long time, they actually run in my family, my Grandmother had them. Funny thing is the CMT is from my Granddfather.. I take a combination of prescription meds and over the counter meds in a combination put together by my Dr.. But I know what are going through, I also had gastric by-pass 5 years ago and still start every day with my vitamin, etc. I don't know if there is a connection, the migraines came before the surgery and actually have been a little better since I have kept the weight off.  . Guest guest
Hmm.. my sister, who also has CMT, has migraines. We always figured it was either hormonal or allergies. Never thought of a relationship between them and CMT since neither I nor our father get them... but I'd like to know if there is one. > > Hi Becca here. Guest guest
I had migraines start when I was 35. No Immitrex or other medications out then. As soon as I felt one coming on, (my body temp rose and I had visual zig zags) I would stop whatever I was doing, leave work, and head straight to my bed, making sure the room was as dark as possible and keep a cold cloth on my head. After 24 hours, most of that in sleep on and off, I was fine again. Visual disturbances gone, body temperature back to normal. My Internist suggested a change in diet, NO caffiene, NO chocolate and some others, and he also had a suspicision it was hormonal. Gradually the time period between migraines got wider and wider, have now been migraine free for 11 years or so. I do not feel migraines have any connection with CMT, nor have I found any research to indicate as such. Anyone can get migraines. Guest guest
Yep, migrains here too. Unfortunately, migrains are excedingly common in the general population so anyone can get them. My migrains got severe while I was on a birth control injectable hormone, depo-provera. One doc pointed out that hormones were often the cause of migraines so I stopped it and they gradually got better until they are now a rare event. Most people have some trigger if they pay close enough attention. Hormones are probably the most common, other things are chocolate, red wine, strobe lights or the effect of the winter sun hitting your eyes " sideways " especially while driving or with lots of alternating shadows, etc. I have never heard of cmt or gastric bypass being linked causally. Interestingly, the thing that works best for my migraines (and I've tried the heavy hitters, Imatrex, etc) is Excedrine Migraine (which I believe is exactly the same as regular Excedrine with caffeine, aspirine and the same ingredient as Tylenol). That, and/or taking a nap in a quiet, dark room usually does the trick. > > Hi Becca here. Anyone have CMT and migraines? how do they affect you and what do you do for them?? Guest guest
I also had a gastric bypass in 2000, but I have had migrain headaches all my life. I go someplace very dark and silent. Take a pain pill and rest until I can function. Jay > > Hi Becca here. Anyone have CMT and migraines? how do they affect you and what do you do for them??
