Hi my names . I am new to this group. Alesha is my daughter who

has downs syndrome (4 and half yrs old).

This weekend i went to see a friend in London who also has a little

girl with downs syndrome. Her daughter is 3yrs old. The difference

between the 2 girls shocked me. Alesha seems oblivious to anyone

around her. She has always had behavioural issues. She will hit

herself at times and it also seems she struggles to play (would rather

throw anything and everything). She seems very hyperactive alot of the

time. My friend pointed out to me that she believes Alesha has the

possible signs of autism. I looked on a DSA website into the dual

diagnosis and most of the signs are definately there.

I did ask my portage worker once about this and was told no she hasnt

its because she has downs syndrome.

I am at a loss as what to do now to be honest. This is why i joined

your group. Any advice/ help would be greatly appreciated here.

Alesha attends a special school here and today i am going to ring them

up and speak with them.

On the DSA website it does however state that it can be difficult to

actually diagnose the dual diagnosis by proffessionals. Is there any

tips/pointers i should insist on please? Is there a test or something

to let you know if she has autism?

I look forward to hearing any advice you can give me

(mum to Alesha 5yrs in August) xxx
