Guest guest
Wow. This is a fascinating link that shows that lab rats gain excessive weight when consuming HFCS in comparison with table sugar or sucrose. http://www.princeton.edu/main/news/archive/S26/91/22K07/ If you are not convinced about the damage HFCS poses, or are not aware of the use of HFCS in the food industry, this surely is a call to look at food labels and understand what it is exactly that we are consuming. I for one am happy they make Coca Cola in the UK with plain sugar. But I will be avoiding soda in the US as it is made with HFCS! I always avoid aspartame drinks (like diet sodas) as they cause me headaches. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Thanks for this. When I went to the Muscle Disease clinic last fall I talked with a dietitian and she told me about HFCS. In a nutshell, she said that the body doesn't recognize it and can't digest it, so it still craves sugar. I'd already heard that it caused obesity and also accelerated cell aging. Of course, I am a sugar fanatic, but I am truly trying to cut out HFCS and sugar, too. The Corn Growers Assoc here has put out an ad saying that HFCS is no different than sugar - same calories & such, and it is probably succeeding since most people have heard something about the stuff, but can't remember what. Of course, they want to save their livelihood, but do they need to poison us in the process? I believe that Pepsi & Snapple have gone back to their original formulas using sugar instead of HFCS. I stopped drinking any of that stuff b/c like you I get headaches from Aspartame, (and have other reactions to Sucralose), and even with real sugar, sodas are really just empty calories. I'll stick with vanilla seltzer - no sweetener and a good fizz! > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > >
