Guest guest
Elie goes to work now at Burnt Mountain. That is the name of the place where he works. He is a person - without labels at work altho his day is supported by Medicaid waiver. No one discusses who has what label or is what label. So refreshing. And this is a sheltered place with people who go out to work in the community and use the location as a social hub, as well as people who work at different tasks brought in. And jobs like Elie's volunteer work at the nursing home, but centered around his social hub at the Burnt Mountain. And the big point for me - supervised by people who know and care about him. There has been much discussion in circle where work places are discussed about creating circles of employees or employers who would " look out " for those with disabilities amongst them. I must say, that those places which I have visited would not work for my son. Were the supervisor to be distracted by a phone call or business, Elie could easily leave with a customer or other worker. Not safe idea for my son. > > In a message dated 3/30/2008 10:04:03 P.M.
