Guest guest
HI All, I've been pretty swamped and not checking in as often as I like. Sorry. Mom's back on chemo already, 's graduating from college Sunday (yay!) and Andy will go through commencement this June. BUT. Beth, my trusted helper, sent me a heads up that you all were talking about the conference in Boston. I cruised a few posts and can offer the following information. Dr. Capone, Toni , and I will be doing a preconference workshop that sounds all " fluffy, " but is intended for folks whose kids have or similar. Toni is a master with words! I'm sure Dr. Capone will address in his workshops - he has a new study coming out, so there is information to share. As for getting a table and doing marketing, I don't know how that would go over. Meaning, it's expensive. $190 for the table, plus shipping, and this year they have some special group handling the boxes which adds another layer of fees. Not sure what they are yet, I don't want to know. Additionally, if I don't run out of money before I accomplish this task, I hope to talk into putting together an initial e-learning presentation regarding that we can offer for families (and professionals) who can't come to conventions. We'll see. Anyway. Here is the preconference information: E) Holding On and Moving Ahead When Life with DS Includes Issues of Autism Spectrum or Disruptive Behavior Disorders Capone, M.D., Kennedy Krieger Institute; Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, s Hopkins University School of Medicine, NDSC Board Member, Baltimore, MD. Joan Guthrie Medlen, R.D., L.D., Project Director, Creating Solutions, author of The Down Syndrome Nutrition Handbook, Portland, OR. Toni , B.A., Project Coordinator, Exceptional Children's Assistance Center, NDSC Board Member, son, NC When a family's journey with DS includes travels along the autistic or behavior disorder spectrum, life can quickly become and remain difficult. Building capacity in response to chronic medical and behavioral complexity requires re sources, problem- solving, a sense of humor and myriad other supports. This session will identify strategies and practical tools to assist with managing medical and behavioral challenges in ways likely to promote greater ease and better days for the entire family. Note: To aid planning for this session, those registering will be contacted in advance to identify specific concerns and issues. Take care, Joan (Andy's stressed out Mom)
