Hello My name is Virgnia and was diagnosed with CMT. I am trying to get my kids

tested for CMT and my Pediatrician is stuck because he doesn't know what blood

test to order. Quest Diagnostic told him that there is about 30 codes to test

for CMT. So Here we are trying to figure out what test to order. I know that for

me it took alot of exams and even a visit to a neurologist out of state. But all

I want to be done on the kids is a single blood drawn. I live in Vegas..Does

anyone have any information that can help speed up the process. I already called

my Neurologist but it is hard to get a hold of him. Thank you.

Virgina,

When you were diagnosed, was it through the DNA blood test? Do you know what

type? Prior to that, did your neurologist ask you about family history? If a

child has CMT, it will be the same type as the parent (although symptoms can

vary)

Ask your Neurologist to contact Athena Diagnostics http://www.athenadiagnostics

to order the testing. It is only one blood draw. Depending or your family

history of CMT, your neurologist will order from the catalog of 24 tests listed

in the peripheral neuropathy disorder category.

Virginia,

When I was diagnosed my neurologist chose the " peripheral neuropathy panel " on

the Athena order form. It was a simple blood draw. The gene responsible for the

most common form is PMP22, but there are lots of variations, hence the panel.
