I am surprised that your mother would let you go to bed dirty.  mine sure

wouldn't.  We took a bath every night except maybe Friday night since we didn't

have school on Saturday and no church.  I, too, was a tomboy though and loved

to climb trees and was a little bit of a daredevil.  I wasn't a bad kid really

but woould sneak a smoke but never inhaled.  We always had to wash our hands

and faces before meals or we wouldn't get to eat.  I have learned to ride a

bike in an attic that had coal burning heat so when i'd come down I was

literally black with coal dust and dirt from the attic.  Sure didn't have the

stain removers back then tha we have now.  I think about the kids bibs when

they were little and now the stains we re able to get out of some of our

clothing.  My husband has Parkinsons an he sometimes falls asleep while eating

and sometimes he wears aprons.  I almost hate to put his clothes in with mine,

but they come clean most all the

time.  If I didn't know something was blood, it doesn't come out unless I use

peroxide or catch it early and scrub it.  He never scrubs hard enough to clean

it out.

We had colds and got measles, etc. like any other kid.  but we never had

allergies or anything much serious.  I was really pretty healthy until I went

back to work and sat at a desk all the time and was in classes and in the car

and then in meetings, etc. The sitting was not good and I no longer had time at

lunch to walk or time after work to walk as I had before.  I am now diabetic,

but runs in family.  Hurt my kidneys when I was throwing up and had some kind

of infection and wasn't eating or drinking much.  Didn't know that when we are

sick our sugar goes up even if we are not eating.  I couldn't keep anything

down so didn't take medicine.  that was in 2005 after I retired.  I retired to

try to take better care of myself - to exercise, etc.  Did well until the

kidney failure.

A lot of what happens to us is genetic and another part is not taking care of

our body as well as we should.  While not overdoing antibiotics is important

but there are times when we need them.  And washing our hands often is an

important safety factor.  I don't see anything wrong with a kid playing in the

dirt or the mud, but they sure ought to be washing it off before eating and

before bed.

I am going to be on antibiotics for a while as I have an infection now.  Had

some sores on my legs and they are seeping and looks like an infection.

Getting it checked now but in the meantime I am on amoxicillin until Tuesday and

then maybe on something else when we know precisely what it is.  Can be strep

or staph. I don't usually get infections.  My husband has had them numerous

times and they can come frm the air outside or the grass or whatever and we may

have them in our bodies anyway. We just need a bit of weakness and they can get

away from our immune system, especially if it is weakened.

I hope we both get over our problems now and can get back to a more healthy

normal.  I may have to pick up some yogurt to even out the digestive bacteria

since they may be decimated by the antibiotic.  Want to keep the good

bacteria.  Good luck to you.

Im going to chime in here too, When growing up I was a tomboy, always outside,

playing/eating the dirt, playing in the woods, eating wild blackberries with out

washing them, or my hands. I dug in the dirt and build dirt houses and then went

to the crik and caught crawdads then would eat food with out washing my hands.

There was days I played so hard that I when I walked in the door I was so tired

I didnt eat I just passed out on the dirty floor, or in my bed. Just to get up

then next moring and do it all over again. with out having a bath inbetween and

rarely washing my hands for any reason. If while outside my hands got sticky I

would wash them off with leaves or grass, if that didnt do the trick I would add

a lil spit to the mix. then dry them off on my dirty shorts. I went barefoot

everywhere, I could walk on rocks, gravel, hot pavement and it hardly bothered

me, even stickers didnt bug me much if at all. I walked threw grass, dog poo,

fields, puddles

and etc. same with my hands I didnt wash my feet unless i steped in poo then I

did the same thing I did with my hands to get them clean minus the drying them

on my dirty shorts ( although I didnt use my hands to help get it off can you

say ewww) anyway. My sister was another story, she couldnt stand to be out side,

there was bugs and worms and junk, she had to be clean all the time. She did

play outside but she always had to have the sprinkler or water hose on so she

had some way to wash off anything that got on her she didnt like. She would even

wash off a drop of rain. Now fast including that time and fast forward a few

years, she was ALWAYS sickly, something was always going on with her, Me I was

healthy as a horse and never got sick (made me mad cause I didnt get to miss

school) fast forward even more I she and I had kids, she wouldnt let them play

outside with out shoes and barely out side at all, always had anti-bacterial

soap and the hand

sanitizer (which now gets kids drunk) my kids, I let do the same as me. I did

try to keep them cleaner as we lived in town instead of the country, but I let

them be kids and eat dirts and worms and bugs and all that good kids stuff.

Guess what, my kids was healthy horses too, my sisters, sickley. Now over the

years my lungs got bad so I have copd from smoking 90% of my life. That caused

me to have to take antibiotics and etc. and now I have other health issues that

are genetic. My health has gone down cause I take antibiotics to much cause the

dr. are affraid cause of my lungs. I dont get out in the dirt as much and Im

cleaner. I started using harsher chemicals to clean better with and

antibacterial soaps. I noticed my health was getting worse the more I tried to

stay cleaner/healthier...I no longer by antibacterial soaps and not as harsh

cleaners, my health got better then what it was, not cured but not as sickly.

Well I did more that a chime so I guess you can say I rang the bell..lol
