Guest guest
I haven't had this but I think what you are referring to is called Prinzmetal angina (hope I remembered the spelling right). It is vasospasm of the cardiac arteries which has the effect of giving chest pain and mimics cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is usually because of narrowing of the arteries due to fatty plaques and cause the patient to be very susceptible to a heart attack. In the case of vasospasm the symptoms seem very much like a typical heart attack but when a catheterization is done to examine the cardiac arteries there is usually very little plaque or narrowing. It is a lower risk for heart attack, but a serious enough spasm could restrict blood flow enough to cause problems in rare cases. I'm not a cardiologist but I believe standard treatment for this type of vasospasm is a calcium channel blocker. This is the mechanism of several of the blood pressure meds available and is why there are some folks with normal blood pressure on one of these meds. I do not think there is any relationship to CMT. It is a function of the electrolyte balance (calcium) and how that affects smooth muscle, no nerve involvement.
