Guest guest
Need advice. I've been fuming and crying for the last 18 hours. Here's the situation: 23 YO son. He left HS with 22.5 hours of paid employment. He is down to 7 HRS because of business closings - not firing. We live in a small town and people try their hand at new businesses every day and they don't generally make it. His greatest amount of hours out of HS were at a local, upscale restaurant. Very pricey - great reviews in the state paper - they just couldn't survive. He had 8 hours there. That really hurt. It was 1.5 years ago. We have been trying to replace these hours ever since. Job agency doesn't want to go outside of our town. Big-shot-wheeler- dealer comes in to town and buys bankrupt restaurant and turns it into a gold-mine. People come from all over to get in. No reservations accepted. Normal wait is 1-2 hours but no one seems to care. So rediculous that the locals don't even bother going any more. Great food at reasonable prices. Sooo... my son's job agency has been trying to get him back in there. He is good at wrapping silverware in napkins and portioning food into individual bags into individual servings for quick retreival by the chef. He was promised 3 hours a week by the acting manager (new owner wouldn't give us the time of day, but he has gone on to open 3 more restaurants in the area). He was to start this week on Tuesday. I was asked to send copies of SSI card, Birth-C and picture ID. No one showed Tues. AM at 9:30 to get him started. Yesterday, I dropped him off, walked him in, sat him down with the job coach. When she brought him home at 3 PM, she said they " had a bit of an incident " ; At 10 AM, the actual owners wife walked in, said 'Can I help you?', job coach explains they are waiting for hiring manager, and owner's wife goes balistic!!! 'I said absolutely not to this!!! We don't have any job openings!!! Things are starting to get hectic around here - please get him out of here!!!' Case manager said that in this job agencies 25 years they have never been treated so rudely or with so much hostility or disdain for the disabled. This Restauranteur has been written up with 5-star review in the state paper time and time again. I am compelled to contact the paper and give them a review of my own. What would you do?...
