<<So what do you do about perfume and other chemicals in the air that you

can't control for

your child? >>

Hi, Everyone........I don't have much advice but I will let you know

that Gareth lets anybody know whether they 'skunk' because he would/will

start to gag and throw up while giving them the evil eye!!! Gareth gets it

from

me and my Mom, although we know to walk away from the people. I once told a

sales lady in Penney's to stay away from me....you could smell her a mile

away!!!

<<My name is Shari and my son Jaden is 5 and has

Ds, ADHD and moderate PDD-NOS.>>

Shari....welcome to the group. My son, Gareth, is 19 y/o with the

DS/Autism/OCD dx. I agree that you should go with what you feel is the best

for

Jaden. I was a Mom who pushed for inclusion and Gareth did very well

academically. The most important thing to remember is that the A needs to be

addressed

aggressively.......whether it is through therapies or in a school setting.

Personally, I would lean towards keeping Jaden in K another year unless the ABA

program is the better option. We didn't have ABA when Gareth was young.

Our kids can do fine in an inclusive setting if the right prompts are in place.

When G was in 1-3rd grade, the Life Skills class was nothing more than

babysitting and I refused to allow him to be in them. In the early years,

their

peers are so helpful and understanding, too. That is a good motivator for

speech and social skills. During K, Gareth couldn't stand to be in the

cafeteria....too noisy. They allowed him to eat by himself in the classroom.

Come

middle school, with the kids learning to change classes and bells going

off.....well, we had to make more adjustments. Good luck and what ever you

decide, just remember that our kids can learn with the right supports.

Take care, Everyone.

Margaret
