Hi Dawn.

Sounds like you're very self-sufficient and have achieved a lot in your life. I

applaud you for your tenacity. I can relate, I had a busy career and was very

self-reliant before this disease finally kicked my butt. The hardest part for

me was coming to grips with my limitations, and recognizing that I need and must

accept assistance...not easy for me. I can't drive due to carpel in hands and

numbness in feet, so I have to let others drive. I can't bust down my

wheelchair w/o help, I can't stand more than a few seconds so I can't cook...the

list goes on.

Do I hate it?...of course! But it is what it is, I can't change it so I just

have to accept it. Look into SS disability and find out what you'll get if you

apply now. They base it on preceding years income. I waited too long, at which

time my lessening income due to my limited work ability dictated an amount

hundreds less than it would have been the prior year.

If your family can help you in ways other than money...childcare, errands,

housework, cooking etc. to help you conserve energy, maybe that would be a place

to start, and then see how it goes from there. I'm having to curtail my once

very successful business, so I can relate. Hopefully you'll find another avenue

where you can put that hard-earned degree to good use.
