Guest guest
Hi. I need some guidance here. I need to know everything there is to know LOL about the gluten free diet. If anyone knows of some great websites that would save me a lot of time on Google!! Also some good recipes, and mostly, the best place online to order products (our local health food store is SO expensive!!) Anything on getting started would be really appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
Debbie, If reading directly from the listserve, over on the left hand side, click under " links " and review under Dietary & Alternative bio-med intervention. Plus when you're on the listserve too, there is a blank search box, type in Gluten Free and this will post all the last post in regards to whatever everyone has shared about this topic. Hope this helps. Irma,19,DS/ASD > > Hi. I need some guidance here. I need to know everything there is to know LOL about the gluten free diet. Guest guest
Hi Debbie in Oregon!!! I am also in Oregon and have just discovered a fantastic company called Azure Standard based in Dufur, Or. You can order their catalog for free at www.azurestandard.com They deliver all over Oregon to local drop points and have many gluten free dairy free items in bulk, with lower prices as well!!! I also highly recommend the books Special Diets for Special Kids I and II by . Every recipe I have tried is great and loved by all family members even the non GF ones!!! Depending where you are in OR, I recommend going directly to Bob's Red Mill in Milwaukie. They have many of the dry items needed for recipes in bulk as well. Feel free to email me directly! We have been GFCF for a month now and doing great!!! Amy in Oregon Mom to Connor 3 years DS, assessing for ASD and Brenna 9 months gluten free Hi. I need some guidance here. Guest guest
Debbie,It does not have to be expensive. The kid can hambergers, chicken, pork chops, all plain, peanut butter, grilled cheese, etc. Cook the hambergers plain buy organic ketchup, chicken plain or do chicken nuggets by dipping in organic eggs and rolling in almond flour, frying in olive oil or baked in oven.Canola is poison. Fresh or frozen vegtables can be buttered with Earth Balance buttery spread. You can buy vegan cheese in cheddar and mozzeralla.Kroger creamy peanut butter is gf/cf.You need to make your own breads because this can get expensive.I buy bread made and it is expensive like a half of load $5.00,(4) hot dog or hamberger buns $5.00.I also belong to gf/cf kids online support group. They have lots of recipes. I hope this helps. Guest guest
I would like to put Emelinne on some sort of restricted diet but I guess I should wait for a doctor to tell me which one? She was tested for celiac disease 8 years ago and she was ok. I believe her body may not be metabolizing something or ??? Most of her weight is in her belly. Her thyroid is fine. She starts Seasonique Sept. 1 instead of getting the Depo shot again. I am watching her calories. Her juice is mainly water now. I started giving her Magnesium because of one of the posts here. So anyway, wait for the specialist to check her out first, right? She sees a Dev Ped on October 13. Would she be the one to run tests? > > > > > > Pretty cool our new grocery store Price Chopper has a nice section called Gluten Free, how cool is that??? I dont know how many Price Choppers there are around the country Ive only seen them here in upstate NY, but the word is getting around. > > > I agree, pretty cool, it is mainly people who have Celiac who have helped tremendously well along this journey and of course, if affected within the autism community who are following the biomedical approach. > The sad part of even when it says Gluten-free like yesterday went over to one of our health food store and they were practically sold out of everything I usually purchase for . > We need to overstock on the popular products at these stores. We need more health food stores. > It is our only main Health food grocery store that practically carries more than the other smaller health food stores. Guess everyone is catching up to knowing as well that to stay away from corn, soy, and corn starch, etc. These products were still there. Hmm, are my other friends listening to me? Bought what they could? Yes, have shared my grocery list with them. > Luckily I have some products on hand and hopefully until the store I like restock with the products that are selling the most as has returned to school, need extra supplies. > All good though as I am learning to cook from scratch with using certain flours to purchase from oriental stores or other foreign grocery stores to substitute. > > Yesterday received several calls from friends who I never in the world imagine wanting to seek this approach asking me for a get together to go to the Whole Foods store with me so that I could help them with the basics. Yes, shocked but " in a way " happy that they are going to be on the same boat as I am. > Why, have they seek this approach because several of their regular M.D's are telling them too. Whoa, another shocker my way to hear this. They just could not wait to share this my way. > > I never tell them to do this or that, they have only observe on my journey here just like a person with Diabetes and me with several food allergies/intolerance already. > I was shock and these are from various families who do not even know each other but they will now, they actually sounded happy too where I was surprised. > Why, were they happy? Because they were expecting their physicians to tell them more drastic symptoms and treatments but once told to follow a strict diet, they gave the doc a smile and they too were stunned but told them why? Of course got the calls from left and right hearing the latest. > We really need more stores to carry more Gluten-free food items though even for a large city. All good can not complain as it is a whole better when I first had begun this journey. > > Even the young guy at the register and the bagger got into talking to me, the bagger continues and says will help me all the way to the van. Yes, these are college students and they too are so into the diet too. Unbelievable. They are shocked to hear that they can still have breakfast tacos, pizza, beer, ice cream, etc.when they would tell me something and of course it their way and tell them that it can still be done. Anyways it is just staying among this lingo. Really I am not stirring anything up, just stunned with the latest here of how much and everywhere I turn we all tie right along this journey. Not just because of a label but because it is becoming a new wave here and making new friends and impress that several doctors in our community are actually opening the doors here. > > > Irma,21,DS/ASD >
