Guest guest
My daughter had her adenoids partially removed. Yeh, partially because when the ENT went in to do the surgery he said he noticed she was missed some bone or tissue in the palate, thus named submucus cleft palate. So the doc said that he could only partially remove because when her speech came in she would sound raspy otherwise. We did not have tonsils removed even though I questioned this repeatedly. But the doc said that their was no reason to remove them. She has done fine and in fact much better with sinus stuff. Yes I questioned since he had only partially removed the adenoids then would not they grow back? Yes there is that chance. It has been over a year now and the sinus stuff is a lot better, although not gone since she still has allergies. **************Gas prices getting you down? Guest guest
My son is scheduled next week to have his adenoids removed. Just wondering if anyoone else has had this surgery and if it has helped? Ethan is 5 and is a big snorer, and also has periods of apnea at night. We have had lots of sleeping issues over the years, although they have gotten better there are still times he wakes at night and will stay up in his room for hours, and then of course he is exhausted the next day, which throws everything off. His tonsils have always looked fine, but they did a soft tissue xray and the doctor said his adenoids are very enlarged so he is going to have them removed at the same time he gets tubes in his ears next week. (the adenoids might also be contributing to the fluid in his ears) Thanks!
Guest guest
Please make sure that the doc writes a prescription for pain meds. Will he be spending the night in the hospital? My son did and I had to fight heaven and earth to get pain meds for Elie because he couldn't tell them his level of pain!! So please make sure the order is written to give AS THE PARENT REQUESTS, every 2 -4 hours - NOT on the need expressed by the child. Guest guest
No, we won't be there overnight. I will definitely make sure he gets some kind of pain rx. Thanks!

Guest guest
I agree with make sure the Dr. know what you want before you get there. Dr. can be bull headed. I had to make them agree to keep my son overnight since this is usually out patient. But I knew if got sick or had breathing difficulties afterhours I would have problems getting him back to the hospital and getting people to listen to me. For some reason Dr. think babies and kids with autism can't feel pain or that their treshold for pain is so great that they do not need meds. I felt sick after the Dr. told me when babies are circumsized they do not give them anything. What torture. Cyndi B > > Please make sure that the doc writes a prescription for pain meds. Guest guest
Good luck. a had all three at the same time and it was unbearable, but after all it was worth it. We had hers done in 2006, she was 9 and had to stay overnight in the hospital. The doctors had to eventually drug her up because she screamed the entire night. (This was before Tanex and Zoloft). After the surgery, her vocabulary has tripled, and she doesn't snore near as bad. We have to go next month for possible reinsertion of tubes, so I'm hoping this time is better. I would definitely go through with it though because I've seem tremendous improvements in a. Stella
Guest guest
We have an appointment with the ENT in several weeks and I will be raising this issue. I have heard sleep issues can be more of a problem after T and A removal so am nervous...but hearing good things from most of you! Guest guest
My experience has been that the T & A is where the pain is - not the tubes. I have seen kids get tubes in the morning, be sleepy that day (post op) and by evening or the next day FINE . Not so with T & A. The first day was awful for us - Elie was in the step down PICU becaus his breathing issue pre op were so severe. Getting medication for pain a nightmare, he screamed for hours, -until he had no voice, then just sat there trying to scream with tears streaming. Day two I had him home and gave him Tylenol and codeine every 3 hours until almost midnight. By day 3, he was eating hamburgers! No snoring from day 3 on. > We have an appointment with the ENT in several weeks and I will be > raising this issue. Guest guest
agree make sure he has pain meds. also if he is having his tonsils removed too i would ask to stay over nite Re: adenoid removal Please make sure that the doc writes a prescription for pain meds. Guest guest
Some tips I got from other parents and discovered through 's tonsil and adenoid removal is to keep the tylenol or whatever they tell you to use in their system. Don't wait until the chld is in pain to give the next dose. It is easier to control pain if you stay ahead of it rather than try to get it to go away. I made sure that I gave him medication so it was in his system before meal times or when I offered food or drink. As long as he had pain meds he would eat and drink. Second, we found that the red liguid tylenol seemed to sting 's throat but he would take the purple liquid. FYI, ask the dr for the appropriate doseage to use the infant concentrate, you don't have to give as much. Much more expensive but at least you can get it in them. Guest guest
My daughter had adnoids and tonsils out when she was about 4yrs. She did seem to breath better when sleeping. BUT this year when they inserted a gromit in her ear (about the 6th set) they found that the adnoids had grown back !! Dr said this can be quite common. So they removed them again - it was day surgery and we just used panadol over the next couple of days. She bounced back in no time and less snoring. annette - (emma-jay 10yrs ds/pdd) --------------------------------- Get the name you always wanted with the new y7mail email address. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your experiences and advice. I will definitely ask for an rx for pain meds to have if needed, although his md said he should be fine with tylenol or motrin. I guess his adenoids are blocking almost 100%, so I am really really hoping to see this help his sleeping. It is hard to know how much of his sleep patterns have to do with the autism issues and what is related to just not being able to breathe well. We will not spend the night at the hospital, we will just be there a little longer than we normally would if he were just having the tubes. (this is his 3rd or 4th set of tubes, so I am used to that part of it). His tonsils look fine, so those are not being removed. Anyway, i will let everyone know if anything changes after the surgery, my fingers are crossed!
Guest guest
had her tonsils and adenoids out at the same time when she was 2 1/2 or 3. She has been SO MUCH healthier ever since! We used to live at the ENT's office, and now its been years since we were even there. The only ierd thing was since she doesn't swallow, she had " matrix mouth " where it was pretty gross looking. If you saw " the Matrix " you can kind of guess what it looked like! We are very happy we did it. ('s mom, 9, ds, asd) > > My son is scheduled next week to have his adenoids removed.
