Guest guest
Do you grow your own Stevia? I don't like the truvia at all. I prefer the Splenda. I realize it is processed. I haven't tried to grow any Stevia.   Guess I need to try it as you all rave about it. How tall does it grow? How many plants do you usually need to supply your sweetner? I was wondering about growing it with herbs in the AG. --------------- new with herbs and ways to use them. Only basil is tall enough in my AG to use. I saw some herbs used as a garnish that were battered and fried. . They used parsley, cilantro or taragon. /They got heat in skillet at 350 degrees They said 1 " veggie oil. Batter was 3/4 c flour, 1/2 c. cornstarch, 3/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 c room temperature seltzer.wash and dry herbs. dip in batter and fry til golden, 30 sec-1 min, drain on paper towel. Garnish main dish or creamy soup.  they also recommended submerging rosemary, thyme or lavender in coarse salt and leave for 1-2 days then remove springs. Store in salt mills or shaker. Can do different salts.   Can use with vinegar or oil toinfuse rosemary or thyme in the toilo or vinegar and then use it or can leave a week and then remove and put fresh in for a stronger flavor.  Can sweeten a dessert by washing and drying herbs like mint, basil or lemon verbena. Brush lightly with egg white when dry and then coat in sugar. Dry on rack for 12 jrs to 1 day. if too much, canjust rub a bitg to flake off. Try that on icecream.  Muddle in drinks. Put basil, mint, taragon (just one) in a cocktail glass and crush with muddler or wooden spoon. Try mint mojito, basil lemonade, taragon iced tea or mint iced tea.   I thought they sounded like some good idea and tore the page out of my Rachey Ray Magazine.   Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Friday, June 1, 2012 4:29 PM Subject: Re: I made Quinoa Flour (and Popcorn Patties)  Hi : I'm glad too. I'm learning all sorts of cool stuff to do with the vitamix. Makes absolutely the BEST ice cream in the world and I get to eat it too!!! This afternoon I made regular Chocolate banana ice cream(no peanut butter). Less Calories and just as delicious. Used Stevia in the Raw. Thank god for Bananas!!!! lol Melody > > > > Now I have a question (I'm posting the link so you can see what I mean). > > > > How come when I made the flour-club soda mixture, it did NOT resemble the same as when I did the Regular white flour and club soda mixture. > > > > In this case I had to add some spelt flour and then all was fine. > > > > What (if anything) can I do next time to make a thicker batter? > > > > Here's the video. > > > > And Alan ate all the popcorn shoot patties, they were THAT good!! > > > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2IEeyz415Q > > > > Melody > > >
Guest guest
Thanks for the information about Stevia. I may be checking at one of those stores to see if I can find some stevia.  I may try to order some seeds as well so I can get some started. How do you propagate them? Do they bear seed or can you take cuttings to start them? They do taste different from the packets of truvia? Those were so bad that neither my husband nor I could stand them. He didn't like other artificial sweetners either, except he does splenda. I guess those are GMO since it is the opposite of sugar or switched in some chemical way when I didn't learn chemistry.   Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Friday, June 1, 2012 5:45 PM Subject: Re: I made Quinoa Flour (and Popcorn Patties) also use of herbs  Check at Lowes or Home Depot for a stevia plant that is already growing, start with that, rather than seed for your first go at it. They need to be potted in soil, but do fine even in a tiny pot-yes, you could grow them right alone with your other goodies! > > > > > > > > > > Now I have a question (I'm posting the link so you can see what I mean). > > > > > > > > > > And Alan ate all the popcorn shoot patties, they were THAT good!! > > > > > > > > > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2IEeyz415Q > > > > > > > > > > Melody > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
