Guest guest
Greetings: I have CMT Type 2 (not sure what variant), and I also have glaucoma; I am fairly certain that the glaucoma is not related to the CMT. The glaucoma, however, IS related to congenital cataracts. I was born with cataracts, legally blind as a small child, and had five major eye surgeries before age 9. I had lens implant surgeries in my late twenties and early 30's and also some laser surgieris to remove scar tissue. My CMT was diagnosed when I was around 16 but I didn't realize it was CMT until my late 20's (they just told me it was likely an inherited neuropathy but nobody else in my family was diagnosed, although several others walk " funny. " ). Anyway, I was only diagnosed with Glaucoma in the past five years but I was told that the glaucoma, in my case, was caused by the trauma of my many eye surgeries; I was actually told that " most " people with congenital cataracts end up with glaucoma at some point in time. Right now, my vision is the best it has been in my life (I drive, etc.) and I don't really notice the glaucoma but I do take an eyedrop daily in both eyes to keep it from progressing. My father, who also has a pes cavus foot and walks with a waddle, is 99% deaf (age 81); my brother (43) has a hearing aid but no CMT symptoms. My CMT is manifested w/ pes cavus feet, bad balance, cold extremities, weak hands, a hammer toe, can't lift my toes or stand on my toes. I am fairly active, however; I walk about a mile a day and am able to do most " normal " activities. My hearing is not great but I have not been diagnosed with significant hearing loss. Peace, Marti
