Melody > > Hi all its again and I was wondering (I do that to much at times) Other then Sprout people what/who/where are there good places to order sprout seeds and who should I stay away from. Or do you know any awesomely good deals on a particular seed(s) some place even if its just one kind? > > Hope the weekend is a good one for everyone! > >
Guest guest
Carolyn: And this is just my humble opinion. If you have a can of those sunnies and they have NOT been in the freezer (and you got them from the same place I got mine), and you live in a warm climate!!!!, I'd toss them. Why do this? Because if they hatched (mine were crawling all over the place and I don't know if this is larvae but who knows), well they have had time to not only be larvae but to have MULTIPLIED all over your seeds. Think about this. Start from scratch. Get a new can and put immediately in the freezer. Just my opinion. Anyone else? Melody > > Sprout people and Sprout House are good. Others are questionable. Many, like Burpee, carry organic seeds but not in bulk for sprouting or mostly not. There may be few. yet after Melody's experience with another company and the sunflower seeds having bugs in them, it is a bit scary. Iordered one of those cans too and now am afraid to open them. When I get the freezer down a little I'll put the can in there for 60 days to kill any larvae. Hopefully won't do anything until opened as no air should be getting to them. >  > So stick to someone who is well known. Sometimes Sprout House advertiss on Amazon as well so check both places for best deals. >  > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2012 10:21 PM > Subject: Where else to order > > >  > Hi all its again and I was wondering (I do that to much at times) Other then Sprout people what/who/where are there good places to order sprout seeds and who should I stay away from. Guest guest
I agree that they shouldn't be consumed, BUT....don't throw them away! Toss some in a container and grow sunflowers, or better yet...feed them to the birds! You can get a cute and simple birdfeeder at Walmart for 99 cents! Fill it up with the buggy mix and let the birds enjoy it. Just freezing bug infested seeds might kill the bugs, but then you still have dead bugs in them-not something I want to eat, but they will grow in a pot (you can then harvest the seeds for your own use), but lett the birds and/or squirrels eat them instead of tossing them! > > > > Sprout people and Sprout House are good. Others are questionable. Many, like Burpee, carry organic seeds but not in bulk for sprouting or mostly not. There may be few. yet after Melody's experience with another company and the sunflower seeds having bugs in them, it is a bit scary. Guest guest
Want to know why I love ? Because only can think of a way to take bugs and feed ANYTHING. I would never have thought to take buggy mix and feed birds. How cool!!! Thanks . Melody
Guest guest
I can't take credit for the idea! My critter loving daughter insisted years ago that we should put our roots from sprouts and microgreens out for the birdies, and we eventually started putting out seeds too! The birds LOVE the tangled roots left in soil from micro greens! I have a birdbath that I put the soil in after I have harvested the greens-the birds flock to it! > > Want to know why I love ? Guest guest
The only birds we get in Brooklyn are the ones that wake you up at 6 a.m. when they go Coo Coo Coo. My friend's husband came out one morning and starting throwing things at them. It didn't stop. And for the longest time I thought we had an owl sitting in a tree around the corner from my house. Every single night he would go Hoo Hoo Hoo. So of course, I thought it was an owl. Turns out, it was not an owl. My neighbor said to me " There he is, it's a dove " . I got so excited and said: " We have a dove in our neighborhood and he is up in that tree? " He's been there ever since. People just stop and stare at him. I got to get a life!!! ROFL.
