Guest guest
Hello Again!! While this battle is one we'll always be fighting- today I have a bigger battle to fight. An ARD!! Three years ago the school district moved our son from his homeschool to a school 5.5 miles away in order to " centralize " services. We challenged the decision, but eventually caved and sent him on to the school other than his homeschool. Fast forward 3 years- we were notified this summer they'd be changing schools for the kids in our school district in the life skills room AGAIN. This time the school is 15.5 miles from our home and home school down a very busy highway!! This means he'll be on a bus for 40 miles or more a day (both directions + stops). I filed a complaint with TEA and learned last week our request to send him to our homeschool was denied as they have a right to centralize services. So I've called a last-minute ARD (school starts tomorrow) but feel I'm up againgst a pack of wolves. BTW- our home school does have a special needs classroom and there are a couple children with DS. However is not toilet trained and I think this is the issue. Any last minute advice????? Thank you to the only people who really understand! A friend on our local DS list recommended using these sites if we want and buying up as much stuff as we like as possible. If the disability community starts buying awareness stuff in droves and the rest of the world doesn't buy many ugly things, our dollars will vote and stuff that does not sell will disappear. Never give up, indeed. I just got on a friend of my son's for using retarded as an insult. I told him I NEVER want to hear that word in my house again and I suggest he consider how hurtful it is before he uses it anywhere else, either. Unfortunately, I read today that Tropic Thunder is the #1 movie this week. But we can battle on in our own little corners of the world. Guest guest
, There is no law that says a child must be toilet trained to be in a certain classroom. Plenty of kids in wheel chairs are not toilet trained and get to go to school in a regular class. He has a right to go to his home school. There is a limit on how long a child can be on a bus but I think it is closer to an hour at least that is what I remember. Holly Good Luck!
