True, with a foot that has a different shape, custom made braces could be

better, since off the shelf ones might push on the ankle, and that hurts. Also,

custom made insoles with Blue Rocker braces are essential.

One more good thing with Blue Rocker is that they allow your feet to move a bit

in the shoe, they don't fix the foot into a rigid position. I tried braces like

that too, and my feet were numb and strange when I took those braces off, I

could hardly walk without. When I take off my Blue  Rockers, I can walk around

as before. They  help without ruining my feet. They are more like very stable

boots than braces. I don't want braces to correct the way my feet are. They are

like this because this anatomy fits my body and way of walking best. Trying to

force my feet into a " correct " position is, for me, wrong. It would be

different, maybe if I was a child, but I got the braces when I was 38, so my

feet will not be any better now.

Subject: Re: Blue Rocker AFOs

I have mild foot drop and back when I was diagnosed with CMT the physical

therapist had me try on braces that look like these. I could not wear them

though. Because of the way my ankle bones are shaped they did not fit around

them properly. To wear braces I would need to have custom made ones. The

therapist didn't think I was bad enough for that so they had me get orthodics

for in my shoes. That doesn't help with foot drop but it does help with having

my foot positioned better when walking.

The other consideration for braces is that something off-the-shelf also probably

won't work if they need to correct something like if your foot toes in.
