Guest guest
It was suggested to us that we try to get the school to assign a one-on-one para-pro for our daughter . She just turned 7, and will be repeating the pre-school AI (autism impaired) program. I read some info on the sLaw site, and it says that evaluations can be used to help justify a one-on-one para-pro. Has anyone here done that, and if so, what specific evaluations did you find useful? doesn't really have extreme acting-out behaviors...it's more to do with keeping her focused. Thanks, Dave
Guest guest
Hi Dave, Firstly, why is a seven year old in preschool? Yes, evaluations can justify a one to one para to assist with her education. If the IEP goals justify a one to one para to help meet those goals, then yes an evaluation maybe helpful. There are many types of evaluations. I would think an ed consultant with a background in autism would be helpful in the evaluation. You would have to ask for and IEE in an IEP meeting to justify the school paying for the evaluation. A private eval can be costly and the school has to consider it not follow the recommendations. The school has the right to request to evaluate first before agreeing to an outside eval. You must justify why the school's eval is not comprehensive to get an IEE approved.
