Guest guest
All I can say is that it takes time. Elie will sort of wash his hands with liquid soap. HE will put water on his face- I need to clean his eyes daily and he HATES this. So now we tell him wash your face AND YOUR EYES or Mommy will. HE is sort of getting his eyes wet at the sink and when drying actually cleaning them. But he is only 23 - maybe another five years AND LIVING WITH HIS NEW ROOMMATE - he will actually wash. BTW - we soak him clean with bubble bath that has jojoba in it to get the skin clean - once in a purple moon, he allows lotion on his elbows and feet. BUT HE WOULD NEVEr touch such a thing. Same with shampoo - ain't happened yet. We try EVERY SINGLE TIME he baths to get him to put shampoo on his head and/or rub his head - NOT, never, won't can't , . We will see how does in helping Elie. HE already got Elie to put shaving foam ON his face - not smooth it out but at least ON his face. > Hello more seasoned than me wonderful ones, > Once upon a time I actually taught little people just like ours. > Even provided private ABA & SI therapies. Guest guest
Sara, It is exciting to see how much Elie has accomplished just this past year. I love keeping up with his adventures. You must post some pictures when you have time. I hope one day we get to meet. I often timed during the day think about Elie and wonder how Jake will handle things when he is older. I think Elie's adventures give us all hope that our kids can have a life outside of us! Holly
Guest guest
Thank you Holly. WE also see great change in the last 2 years. The other day, while grocery shiopping from a list he helped make, one of the items on the list was to buy a ready made sandwich at the deli counter. After he asked the lady What's this? a few times, she said, why don't I make you what you want. HE agreed - and ordered each itme just like he was at Subway - altho he has never been there! Usually all he orders anyplace is hamburger FF. We all are awaiting to see how far will he go??? > Sara, > It is exciting to see how much Elie has accomplished just this past year.
