Guest guest
Well, I can't stand the word. It's mean-spirited and cruel, and there is nothing positive about it. It is meant to demean. I don't allow it in my classroom, any more than I allow demeaning words for skin color or religion or nationalities. What this movie does is tell our society that it is *okay* to use the word, it is *okay* to wear the shirt. If this actor were playing the part of a Jew, would society allow him to say he went " full kike? " Or if he were playing the part of someone from China, could he say he went " full slant-eye " ? So why is it okay for him to say he went " full retard " ? Isn't a society judged by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens? I don't want my son walking down the street and seeing " Full retard " on the chest of someone walking toward him. Hell, *I* don't want to see that. And you'd better believe I will say something anytime I do. I was actually looking forward to seeing this movie, but I will not now. There is no way I will support financially people who would be so callous and cruel. Carolyn
Guest guest
Very well said! I didn't know there was going to a a shirt, so then I can wear one that says " Millionaire " see how silly it all is? Now, to change this a bit, what would you say to someone who you saw with it on or if you were walking by and heard someone say it in conversation or to you? Guest guest
I am not sure but I thought it was from this list.? I have a story written by a high school student about the use of the word " retard " .? It was his graduation speech, I believe....help me out if anyone here knows what I am talking about. I will check through my saved documents as I saved it and made several copies.? I keep it in my purse to hand out to anyone who I overhear use the word.? I, thankfully, have only had to hand it out once, at a grocery store.? Two young ladies where choosing groceries and one called the other a stupid retard.? I passed them in the next isle and handed them the paper.?? I just said it was something really good for them to read and moved on.? I have no idea if they even looked at it but I felt compelled to do it. Just for the record I am also the one who has no problem when someone is using any foul language publicly to say something.? I try to be polite and most are receptive and many even apologize.? Believe me , I am no saint and my mouth is not the purest but I do know how to behave publicly. For most it is just a bad habit and we are being a nation that just does not think about consequences or responsibility anymore. ?Blessings, homeschooling Mom to AJ (13), (9), ^l^, (age 6, Trisomy 18 mosaic AKA 's syndrome) and Birgitta (age 5, adoption finalized 2/1/05 !!, Trisomy 21 AKA Down's Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Autism, SID) Re: The movie Very well said!
