Guest guest
Hi Joana, I think there is so much value to gain from going to a hospital such as the National. Yes, they are a teaching hospital and as such there are students that can observe. However as a patient if that makes you uncomfortable you can ask the students to leave. Me? I never ask the students to leave. Each interaction they have with someone with CMT helps them to learn, to spot symptoms, and hopefully to help someone else in the future. If you have not been to a CMT specific doctor for more than a year, you will need to go to your GP and get re-referred. The active files I believe only last a year now. With regard to shoes, I wear New Balance shoes for walking / sports, and I tend to prefer to wear Birkenstocks for walking around casually in the summer, and Ugg boots for casual wear in the winter. I have difficulty with buying shoes due to my high arches, but as I do not wear correction except for with athletic use, I can find shoes in shops such as & Bromley. Good luck with your choices and decisions, Donna in London

Guest guest
Hi thanks for these posts. I know there have been several posts on the SAFOs (silicon ankle foot orthotic) made by Dorset Orthotics in England. I have mild foot drop and am very active/walking, etc -- CMT1A -- and currently use the much less expensive Alimed Freedom Soft Food Drop Braces (two alternating pairs last for about 8 months) but with an upcoming visit to London close by, I was thinking of making an appointment there to consider them. Any thoughts or contacts? thanks again for all the posts Sam
Guest guest
Hi again, Well, looking at this I kind of brace support... I can tell you right now (In MY Case) it would be impossible walking with this thing. Just to give you some idea if I put a very tight socks kind of elastic one or bandage around my foot I would not be able to move one step ahead ;( That is the way I have my feet...kind of loose and weak with double joints too... All shoes or sandals can't be hard or pressing my feet at all!!!! So, we can see how different we are from each other ... Nowadays I can not use boots either because press the top of my feet! Thank you again! Have a great day and good luck my friend Hugs Joana > > Hi > thanks for these posts.
