Guest guest
Hi, Everyone....Kathy....an IQ test is not required by law UNTIL the kid gets close to 18 y/o and you are trying to apply for SS benefits. Some states require them for SS and others don't. We didn't need one for Gareth to get SS but I think Sara said she needed one for Eli. The score on an IQ test cannot determine placement in the classroom. I think at age 5, G's IQ was 18-24 months, even though he could put together 100 piece puzzles by then, knew his colors and numbers to 10. With the DS/autism and limited speech, there is no way to get an accurate IQ number, and NO WAY they can place the child according to those numbers. Get that in writing from the school before agreeing to one if it will ease your mind. Her pediatrician/family doctor can give you the dx of autism if he agrees she has it. You don't have to have a specialist make the dx. Jayne....it was 38 here last night. I had to cover the tomato plants and brought in all my inside plants. Take care, Everyone.
