Guest guest
We've been out of touch because we spent some time in upstate NY, and then we were getting ready for 's eye muscle surgery. Well did have her surgery last Wednesday. The rest of the day was pretty rough, because keep throwing up. The worst was when she threw up her Zithromax. After that we switched to the eye drops that they had given us as backup. We hated the thought of putting drops in 3 times a day. However, we were afraid she'd fight getting the Zithromax on Thursday - especially after having it come back up the day before! We saw Dr. Avallone Friday morning. 's eye lids were really swollen when she woke up Friday, and she seemed to be feeling worse then on Thursday. He was afraid she was getting an infection, so we switched back to the Zithromax when we got home. This morning she took the last of the 4 remaining doses, and seems to be doing good. I called the doctor, and he said to not worry about the 5th dose, since she's doing good. Her eyes look pretty good - expect for the red of course. It hard getting used to her eyes looking so awfully red. She finally started school this afternoon, and she must be doing good, because they haven't called to say otherwise! Guest guest
Hi Jayne, I've been away working and missed that was having this surgery. My husband went through this surgery years ago at age 11. Good to hear that all went well. It certainly didn't sound too pleasant. Hopefully the recuperation will be quick. Charlyne Subject: 's surgery To: Date: Friday, October 3, 2008, 9:17 PM Hello everyone, Thank you for all the wonderful thoughts and prayers yesterday for 's surgery. They worked! did really well yesterday. EVERYONE was so wonderful at the hospital. No offense to those that work in the health care field but I'm sure most of you can relate to how there is usually at least ONE really mean, cranky, unfriendly nurse in the bunch when you are IN the hospital. Not this time, everyone was wonderful. The worst part for me was when I went back with him to the OR. We have never been asked if we wanted to go back before it was always him being wheeled off and me left with my tears welled up. They asked if he wanted to walk or ride in the bed, he wanted to walk. He walked back into the surgery ward and started to shake more and more as we got closer to the OR. Then when it was time to go into the OR and cross that line INTO the room, he didn't want to at all. " No thank you! " (my always polite son!) After much coaxing and getting nowhere, I finally sat in a chair and got him to sit on my lap. We wheeled into the OR and we basically had to hold him while they held the mask on him. He took forever it seemed to fall asleep. It was awful for me, he was signing Daddy and asking for Daddy and . Ugh, breaking my heart. Then we put him up on the table and after a few minutes it was time for me to leave. He took a good amount of time to get to the next level of being under. He fought it off pretty long - hmmm, break my heart some more why don't you little boy! Parenting is hard work and so heartbreaking at times. He came out of surgery about 2 hours later and did so well with the wake up. Usually our worst part, the wake up. He's usually very restless, thrashing everywhere, crying. Not this time, he just slept and then woke up rather slowly. It was really remarkable to me - he woke up in the middle of being still really out of it and signed " potty " . I said to the nurse, " He's signing that he has to go to the bathroom??? " I didn't think he really had to go but she got the bed " pitcher " and by the time she came back he was back out. I think he felt " something " down there and must have thought, " I have to go to the bathroom. " I was so proud! LOL! He continued to do well once we got home and got up this morning doing really well after meds. In fact, I think he did a little too much dancing to Jack's Big Music Show - he had his meds and was feeling good and I think he overdid it. He spent a good chunk of time under a blanket on the floor this afternoon, he's got to be sore. Overall he's doing great though. The surgery went the best route possible, everything we had hoped for. The doctor was able to get in there and pull both testicles down. My poor boy has 5 incisions though! One through the belly button, two through his groin, and two in his scrotum. OUCH to any man on earth! He's such a trooper. His poor scrotum is really bruising up though now, it's got to be sooooo tender. The doctor did say that the two testicles were very different, one was much smaller. He admitted his ignorance in knowing if men with Ds are infertile. I told him that most are but a few have fathered children. He thought that was the case as the testicles just don't look like they would be able to produce the sperm needed. But, they are down none-the-less, it only took one surgery, and it's over. I'll take that! He's been in pj's all day and I have given Motrin and Tylenol with codeine. I think I'll be able to go to just regular Tylenol and Motrin now. The worst is having to put the Neosporin on his scrotum and then stick some gauze on it 4 x day! Poor guy shakes when I get near them. Can I just say, I'm glad I don't own those things! So overall, a successful surgery and it went as well as one could hope given the situation. I only cried a short while at the early stage of his surgery but I pulled it together! thanks again for the prayers, Jayne check out the view from my shoes at www.wickedbusymomto 3.wordpress. com
