Guest guest
Donna, I am just wondering how you got Maddie off all of her meds and what brought you to that idea? How is she doing without anything? Is she sleeping at night? Any behaviors? I mean all kids have behaviors, but you know what I mean? I am contemplating trying this with ash again.... leah Subject: Re: Re: Dr. Capone To: Date: Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 6:34 PM In a message dated 9/24/2008 6:30:16 P.M. Sigh...relief. to Sarno we have Aetna (although I think we had Keystone at the time) and they said that because we live in Philly where we already have a DS clinic at CHOP, KKI was not necessary. I haven't tried in years, since we only go once a year. And now, not at all.....G-D forbid any further Maddie crises..then it'll be GEORGE, HERE WE COME. I am contemplating trying this with ash again.... leah Hey Leah, First off, good to see you *back on* .........We got Maddie off meds accidentally. This past summer we went to Florida and I had Jen (her sitter who used to be her aide...she watches Maddie for us sometimes) here for Maddie. I had a LOT on my mind, and forgot to fill her abilify.....had asked if I could have my ped do it since my life was too nuts to cram in a Baltimore trip, and so was in the process of getting my ped to contact ....ped was on vacation, and I left in the middle of all this, forgetting to get some refills to hold us over. So I'm IN Florida, and Jen runs out....so I said lets see what happens. Maddie did fine. So we come home, and notice her behaviors seemed better, and her appetite decreased. I think that now that she's done with puberty, she doesn't need it. And while you can't leave Maddie alone for 5 minutes (well, less than that) without paying a price (she's so mischevious and fast), we couldn't while she was on meds either. Her behaviors spiked again last month, but I attributed it to our dog dying (she adored Muggsie) and she suddenly was VERY bored without him. The last couple weeks, she's coming back to *normal*. We just feel like as long as her behaviors aren't out of control, and aren't inhibiting her ability to learn and causing her pain (the reason we started when she was 9 was because she was SO uncomfortable in her own skin...I called it literally " jumping out of her skin " ...it was a horrible time), we would try to keep her off them. So far, so good. I have NO problem with meds, and will put her back on if we need to.....I think of risperdal as saving her sanity when we started....but if she's okay without them, why not? Her sleep hasn't changed at all...but we do still give her a nightly melatonin. As mischevious as she is while awake, we are very lucky in that she does go to bed eagerly....even if she's not sleeping, she likes laying in her bed with her giant stuffed dogs (or sneaking out and trying on ALL her clothes..and I mean ALL...but hey, I figure it gives me peace and I can clean up in the morning....and it makes for LOTS of humor in the Duffey household...there's many a morning we go in to wake her and find her sound asleep with THREE bathing suits, various pj's and socks and shoes on.....LOLOL Oh to be a fly on the wall) Donna **************Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges? Guest guest
If you guys remember, when Tori got sick in March with Strep, we couldn't get her to take the Anitbiotics and had to fight with her-we would give that first before her others. Well, we got tired of fighting finally, and because she hated the antibiotics, and refused to take the 2nd and 3rd meds we weren't able to get them into her. Well, after a week, she seemed " different " . She, still to this day, only takes her Risperdal, her Synthroid and her Prevacid. No more Depakote, no more Prozac. When her bad behaviors start to escalate, we start to rule out causes (thryoid, sick, Autism). Fortunately, we have lucked out so far and all have been more health related than Autism. We'll stay this track for as long as we can, knowing that we may have to go back to the others in the future. Liz Re: maddie off meds? In a message dated 9/25/2008 10:13:00 A.M.
