Guest guest
Elie went with us to vote and he voted as well. We had the Diebold machines with pushbutton screen, so with minimal direction, Elie was able to handle the procedure with only supervision. Very easy and quick - even easier than absentee ballot which we have done for all the primary and local elections. Now the biggy. Yesterday Elie got a letter calling him for jury duty!!!! He registered for the draft at 18, he has been voting since he was 18, but he has never been called for jury duty thus far. So what are my choices??? I went to the courthouse and asked about the rules for serving. There is no way (and I knew this) that Elie could sit on a jury. But the quandry was whether or not I let him be deselected by the lawyers or we remove him from the list. OPINONS?? For this jury selection I played another card- rather than have him permanently excluded by doctor's letter, I opted to have him removed, because he was changing counties before the date he was called. I believe in the dignity of risk, the right to be included in the community, but do I have the right to waste people's time to have him interviewed to serve on a jury? What are other people doing??? -- Sara - Life is a journey- we choose the path.
