Guest guest
Thanks. Unfortunately, did not get to enjoy Halloween. He vomited off and on Friday and was sick and miserable; in bed with phenergan for nausea by 7:15. Saturday the vomiting was gone but diarrhea was wicked. Today both were better and he's eating, hooray, since he has lost SO much weight, but he's still nauseated off and on and has a weird rash and lethargy. Probably back to the dr. tomorrow. Guest guest
Thanks, . The impaction cleared Thursday, so it would have to be a new impaction or one the Xray missed if that's it. And his nausea and diarrhea are gone as of now. We're left with the improving rash and lethargy. The doc is calling in a cream for the rash, and I'm hoping another day resting at home and pushing fluids will turn the corner. Guest guest
Thanks, a. The rash went away, so it must have been viral or a med reaction. He is back at school, and doing much better, but he's very fatigued still. He also may be working on another impaction; we follow up at the GI office Friday. I've been having trouble keeping up with the list in terms of responding to everything, but know I'm reading and you're all in my prayers. Guest guest
That is so scary!!! I'm glad he's recovering and will add him to our prayers. Guest guest
Not through all emails yet, but thanks so much for the prayers. We had a night last night only you all could understand. wasn't feeling well, was exhausted, and sick of it. He had an hours-long meltdown, crying, screaming, ripped his IVs out of both arms, etc. At one point in a brief lull my mostly nonverbal kiddo looked at me and signed and croaked out, " Sorry. " Heartbreaking. It took 4 nurses and me to try to restick IVs, and he was too overwrought, his veins were taut, no luck. He had Pedialyte overnight and finally slept, only for me to awake around 3 AM and find him GONE from the room; he unhooked his feeding tube and slipped out. No one had seen him and an all out search ensued; a nurse found him in the teen lounge by the DVDs. (He quickly had a portable DVD player in his room). He slept finally round 4 til after 9 this AM, seemed fine and headed home soon, then he vomited again. He's happier now, still not well, but I'm waiting for food and if he can keep that down, he might still get to go home; not sure yet. Wow. To answer some questions, he was mildly dehydrated after about 18 hours, but drinking, and not awful. But it was in the 2 hours from the time I put him to bed to the time I checked on him that he went downhill, and then rapidly downhill in the car on the way to the hospital to the point he didn't have a detectable blood pressure when we got there and he was cold and completely unrepsonsive. IVs of saline and glucose and a lot of hot packs brought him out of it, and his BP just got up to normal today. My only advice is if you think your kiddo is getting dehydrated, keep a close eye on them and get to the ER sooner rather than later. If I hadn't checkd on that night, I'm sure he would have been gone by morning! Thanks, Beth Quoting cynthiamiltonburns : > Beth, I am so sorry for he and you. Guest guest
I think it's horrible that the nurses take advantage of the fact that a parent is in the room with the child and they don't keep a close watch. I'm so glad that he felt well enough to get up though. Last time was hospitalized I couldn't even get a nurse to help me change soaking wet sheets and clothes after he wet the bed. Thank God you checked on . I know how terrifying that must have been for you. Hope you get him home and well soon. Guest guest
Oh, Beth. It sounds horrific. When Darwyn is in hospital we ask family to take shifts in the room when we are not there. On the wards its impossible not to be on alert constantly. We're lucky to have enough family nearby to help. Their role is really to press play and change DVD's and call us if anything happens. But really we feel compelled to be there almost around the clock and it is exhausting. I make myself sick every time Dar has surgery. It certainly has a way of making an average boring day all shiny and new again and something to be thankful for. Take good care and I hope you get a nice boring average day soon.
