Guest guest
They are just like the crispers in the refrigerator...closed to keep in moisture and open up to let it aerate and dry a bit...this is very cool. I have that tray system...I just use a slotted one inside one without slots...works well for me even without the dome...LOVE the dome though Of course Alan's comments are always a riot Jane > Such a great place. And someone tell me what the spinning things on top of the humidity dome are for. Guest guest
WOW! Now aren't you glad I sent you there? Those spinning things are vents. If it gets too hot inside your dome, you can turn those to open the top and let heat out. The way you tell is if it get foggy inside and moisture starts to form on the sides. Tell us what you and the clerks talked about. How much was the coir bricks? ew Here's the video of my trip the Brooklyn Indoor Outdoor Gardner Such a great place. Guest guest
I loved this! And your Allan is teriffic. I am surprised that you didn't ask someone what the things on the top were though. Could they slowly let air in in case it got too humid? Could they allow someone to hook up other watering system to a tray on each side? Next time slow down in here and get more detail. I wanted to see the hydroponic thing more. Were several different containers hooked together with the watering system? I think that was when you made a big expression of delight and surprise. Great video though.  Now we are all waiting for EW to tell us what the windmills were for. Can't be to wind it up. I thought it did look sort of like a hamster cage but didn't have a good seal on it. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 6:30 PM Subject: Here's the video of my trip the Brooklyn Indoor Outdoor Gardner  Such a great place. Guest guest
That's great. The holes in the top of the dome allow for air to get in so it doesn't get too warm. You can close them at night to keep the heat in if it gets cool. I've been to that place. The owner is a very nice woman who taught me a lot when I was in there about hydroponics and in particular about growing basil plants-she's an expert, and how you have to " pinch " off the secondary leaves as it grows. Very enthusiastic and helpful!! I love your husbands reaction to your projects. He just takes it all in stride!!! Here's the video of my trip the Brooklyn Indoor Outdoor Gardner Such a great place. Guest guest
Hi, Initially she showed me a smaller dome and she said " do you want to grow really tall Sunnies?? " and I said " yeah " and she brought that the BIG humidity dome. But she was so busy on the phone I didn't get to ask as many questions as I normally would. Today was not a good day to be teaching Melody. They had various Coir items but no small brick. They had one humongus coir square thing for $30.00. They had mats but they were taller than me so I wasn't going to be lugging that big thing home. She really was so busy that she could not answer my questions. Next time I go there I'll do better. And they do not sell the Sure to Grow mat. I made sure to ask that question. They advertise it on the website though. Oh she did give me a mini lesson in some kind of round disc thing. You wet it, it expands, you make a hole in the middle, you drop in a few seeds, it germinates, it grows into a plant and after the first two weeks in April, you plant them. SEE??? I did learn something!!! lol Oh, I investigated the various insecticides. She said anything with the name OMRI is good. She is getting in Orange Guard sometime soon. That's what I use in my house. Oh, right in front of her counter was all the bags of peat moss and vermiculite and I said " do I need to buy this and mix it with my Coir " ? and she said 'No you don't need it'. At last, an HONEST salesperson. lol And it had all kind of seed starter kits and in one aisle they had coir baskets and coir cups and I have no idea where one would use a coir basket or a coir cup but they had it. Lots of stuff to still learn I gather. So at least now I know what the spinning wheels were. And EW, as soon as I walked in I announced that " A friend in Calfornia sent me here!!! " " I'm a sprouter " Then I asked if she sold organic sprouting seeds. I had to explain what I was talking about but then she understood and said no. Now THAT would have really been something. lol Don't worry, NEXT TIME!!! Melody
Guest guest
The round disk is called Jiffy Pellet. Those are for transplanting out of doors. They eliminate transplant shock. ew Re: Here's the video of my trip the Brooklyn Indoor Outdoor Gardner Hi, Initially she showed me a smaller dome and she said " do you want to grow really tall Sunnies??
