Guest guest
I've been doing mung beans for YEARS. In every way possible. In a mason jar, in colanders, in my Sprout garden. I have two batches up right now. I just rinse and drain every 12 hours, I re-stack them put weights on the top and at the end of the growing cycle, they are nice and plump. Are you rinsing and draining COMPLETELY every 12 hours? Guest guest
I only did it once and not sure which beans sprouted but had a lot of sprouts. I put them in a sprouter and had a sprouter above them in a stack and then I just put a cloth over them. The cloth kept them dark. But once they started to sprout, I didn't cover them with the cloth. I rinsed every day and tried to drain off the moisture but left water in the bottom container so there would be moisture but not on the sprouts. I made the mistake of letting them grow too big before I tried to eat them. One problem is that I had taken them over to the window and sat them on the stove which was near the window and my husband turned the stove on. Killed some sprouts but some lived, but some bugs were attracted to them so I tried one and it was bitter so I ended up throwing them all away. I am going out of town for a little while and will be starting them again when I come back.  Hope you have better luck. I think beans may take 24 hours to soak rather than just overnight. I think I soaked them a whole 24 hours and then drained and rinsed. Try that and see if that makes a difference if you didn't soak for 24 hours before.  Good luck.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2012 9:32 PM Subject: mung beans`again  good evening all.....it is hard for me to have to admit that i have been, thus far, unable to produce any really nice mung bean sprouts.....we have had a busy time around our house so i am just working on my third batch but i have had poor luck with the first two and have more questions to keep them in the dark, what do those of you who have had success do ?.....do you keep them in a cupboard or closet ?.....don't they need to be in the open where they can get air circulation ?.....i'm going to try putting them in a flat dish type container this time and put a black bowl over the top of them ( open at the bottom ) and see how that works.....i'll keep them weighted too i'll get this !.....peace, mary
