Hello.

Our 4 year old son with CMT1A has developed stabismus over the past 6 months.

It is a later onset but my husband's family does have a Hx of late onset strab.

However, in light of our son's CMT1A diagnosis our optometrist (I should mention

that he is also my boss/friend...I'm a licensed Optometric Assistant) asked that

if I ask if anyone else with CMT has experienced/knows of strabismus in CMT Pxs.

Many thanks;

Nic

Hello Nic and All,

I had weakened right eye muscles from early childhood and could see

double images just by relaxing the eyes. About age 30-35 I had muscle

lengthening and repositioning done with excellent results - for about 15

years. It then relapsed into the same condition. Due to right eye nerve

damage, there were other issues and I have left it alone. If it is

difficult, I wear an eye patch.

Hello, Nic..........I have CMT1B only diagnosed about 10 years ago when I

was 65.....and I have Nystagmus since birth.......

Nystagmus (N) means I have eyes that oscillate and I have to turn my head

and my left eye turns in and my right eye out in order for me to see

clearly. It is known as the " Null Point " ....I know it is not Strabismus but

it is also a neurological condition affecting the muscles of the eye. CMT

comes from my Dad's genes, as does the Nystagmus. No one in family ever

diagnosed with what we actually had before me. However not all my Dad's

siblings were affected. Only one had the Nystagmus and the CMT . My Dad

had the CMT. No one knew what either problem was but all the symptoms fit.

I have two grown children....my daughter has the CMT gene (DNA tested), my

son would not get tested and neither of them have Nystagmus.
