Was just wondering if there is some sort of checklist that i can refer

to to try and narrow down why behaviours are happening? My daughter

Jemma 3 1/2 eats vegies from her 2yr old sister feeding her but not

from me,, I just thought maybe there is some sort of list to rule out

what it is or isnt, something that may work for all behaviours?

Eg: Is it the bowl or different spoon, the way its given to her?

things like that?

thanks

Oooo!

This one is right up my alley!

Belinda, is your concern about food selection primarily or other

behaviors too?

I do a lot of work on picky eating and oral motor control. Can you

email me a detailed description of what's going on and a list of foods

your child eats to joan@...?

I'd be happy to work with you from there.

Ok...so here's what I do.

Choose a " behavior " or situation. Make a grid. The grid marks off time

across the top.

Down the side list behaviors.

Include spaces to write down other things he may be doing.

Choose a time when you can just sit and watch.

write a 15 minute time in the box across the top.

hash mark down teh column each time your child does something inthe list.

You will start to see patterns.

I journal a LOT when I'm focussed on Andy's behaviors. When I go back

through it, after I " m not emotional, I begin to see a pattern.

Soemtimes that gives me the answer. Other times it gives me what I

need to record for freuqency.

does this make any sense?

Off to make dinner.

Joan

Belinda, you are on the right track with your questions and glad Joan

has offered to assist as this is her arena.

Should you be reading from the listserve, under the links file under

sensory integration or What is ABA?

You will find lots of links to help anyone save some time while

searching for resource information and hopefully there are some

similar solutions to what you are working on.

Let's see if this works.

ABC’s of Behavior

Antecedent = the observable stimulus/conditions leading up to a behavior.

Behavior = the animal’s observable response / action to the antecedents.

Consequence = the physical/observable result of the behavior.

ABC Observation Form

ANTECEDENT. BEHAVIOR. CONSEQUENCE ...

Wishing you well on identifying and measuring challenging behavior, as

well as developing and implementing interventions to address the

identified behavior.

Your welcome, hope something helps and you will master this skill of

navigating.

I do understand what you mean, when I came aboard this listserve I was

not too computer savvy and still learning.

When one post some of the links I do try to place them over on the

link file for future reference.

May you have some luck to assist your child.

If there is any other challenging issue you would like to tackle and

once again reading directly from the listserve, there is this search

box. Then type in example " behavior " , you will see lots of old post

that could probably help with what anyone has had to share with their

experiences.

It does give one hope as once upon a time when my son was a youngster,

there was nothing and here you have a selection to choose from when

anyone shares their story and of course ask and you shall recieve.

My Best,

Irma,20,DS/ASD
