Guest guest
Dear Alice, I would call the pediatrician's office to let them know that Hannah is having an adverse reaction to the flu shot. They may not be very receptive but let them know regardless. Charlyne Subject: flu shot reaction? To: Date: Tuesday, December 9, 2008, 2:37 PM Okay- All last night I thought of this group and wanting to post a question. My daughter 4 years old (DS/ASD) had a flu shot yesterday. It was a busy day, so she didn't get a nap. She fell asleep at 6:45 (typical time even with a nap), but was awake at 10:15... and I mean, awake!! She wasn't crying or acting uncomfortable, but clearly wasn't in a mood to sleep. I got her back to sleep a few times for less than an hour each time, and at 12:30 she slept for about 4 hours. She was up and working through her therapy very well today, and is still going strong without a nap. She's a little combative (scratching, throwing objects, etc.) if I try to lay her down, and almost acts manic: screaming with glee, laughing at things the rest of us don't see as funny...She' s in her room right now yelling through the furnace grates. Has anyone else had this experience?? It's really out of character for Hannah and I'm a little scared. Thanks for any input anyone might have. I'm thinking if I called the pediatrician' s office, they'd poo-poo me. ~Alice

Guest guest
Alice, I'm pretty sure the pediatrician's office wouldn't blow you off. I think they want to know if any child seems to be having a reaction after any shot they've been given. Keep us informed Nina flu shot reaction? The doctor's office was very responsive and said don't give her another flu shot! They also thought she should be better within another day. The up side is that she's giving good eye contact and is very verbal- if the activity is active and involves music. ~Alice Thank you====,___
Guest guest
Alice, Glad to hear Hannah is giving good eye contact, and engaging in some activities (thank God for music). Wow, did the doctor's office mean don't ever give her a flu shot again? Every year it seems to be a different " cocktail " in the shot. I know if your child has heart disease they want the child to be protected. They gave her shot even though she had a cold that day, and you usually hear they won't give them if you are sick. Always call the Dr. if you have any concerns no matter how small or strange they may seem to you. When started getting her first Staph infection (we didn't know what it was at the time) earlier this year - it of course it would be on a Saturday. I took her to Nighttime Pediatrics, but the Dr. there misdiagnosed her. That Sunday I knew they was something more going on then a simple rash. I actually tracked down the nurse practitioner that we see, and called her house. She was listed, and easy to find. I felt better once I talked to her, and we figured out that could wait until the next morning to be see by her in the regular office. I of course apologized for calling her at home, but she wasn't bothered in the least that I had done that. Once she saw the next morning she knew why I had called... Nina Re: flu shot reaction? Guest guest
If you do get your child vaccinated, make sure the flu shot is one without thimerisol. I asked recently, because I am alergic to it & they only had 5 doses of the shots w/o the thimerisol. I believe that most other vaccinations have had the thimerisol removed, but not flu shots. Believe me, I have been asking my son's pediatrician & the nurses who do the shots out in public. I wouldn't subject my son to anything with that stuff in it. , mom to 16, KCMO
