Guest guest
Oh Donna , I am so sorry that you went through that, it must of been SO SCARY! Allie sounds so wonderful! I don't have any suggestions just wanted to let you know I feel for you! Hope it never happens again. Viola In a message dated 12/13/2008 1:59:43 P.M. Allie turned around and screamed.. " OMG, she's climbing out the window " . I have no idea how Allie got herself out of the seat belt and in the back of the car as fast as she did, but she got to her and was holding on to one foot (the other was already out of the car). Duff had used my car the day before and left the lock button off, and I didn't think to check. So we NEED a better system.....a SUPER secure harness she can't get out of. Even those seat belt locks aren't to be trusted...I feel pretty sure she could still get out. Any help? Thanks guys, Donna, still shaking. Guest guest
OMG, Donna! I can't even imagine! I am so glad Tori has stopped doing that. We are able to threaten her with being put back into the car seat if she doesn't sit like a big girl. What about E-Z On safety harnesses. They carry harnesses that zip in the back and are anchored to the car itself. They hold up to 168 lbs. in addition to the lap belt. http://www.hipmonkey.com/car-seats/ez-on-86y-universal-harness/prod_203.html Liz ? about car safety Maddie climbed out the car window while I was driving the other day......I'm still recovering. Guest guest
Oh Donna, my eyes just watered with this frightening issue for Maddie's safety indeed. Of all times during traffic hour of course. Glad Allie and the cab driver were able to react fast to her safety and yours too. I am glad that has out grown this dangerous stunt moves and always seems no matter how much safety protection we try to work around, our kiddos manage to figure something out. Really glad all of you are safe. HUGS!!! Irma,20,DSASD > > Maddie climbed out the car window while I was driving the other day......I'm still recovering. Guest guest
Oh Donna. This brings back horror memories. The solution I had for was moving him to the front seat. I used lots of food rewards and interaction, lots of music to keep him amused. Or you could buy a minivan that has child safety locks on the doors and no windows that open. Sorry you had such a scary experience. Mind happened on a highway going 65, I had him by the leg by the time I was on the side of the road. Guest guest
This is what helped us too, best investment purchasing our Honda Odyssey van as enjoyed sitting on the back seat over the tire where it helped stimulate that sensory input he seek. Finally a some peace here not going on a panic attack with the unexpected moments. As a matter of fact one of my friends whose daughter with severe autism rode in our van, ended up purchasing one when I gave her a ride once. This helped tremendously as her daughter use to kick her and pull her hair while driving, too many close calls. She just loves it and always thanks me. All I know is that this helped our kiddos from doing their dangerous stunts. Another story to add here with this challenge on the escape from moving vehicle's and can relate and know we are not alone. In our case, no longer does this anymore so hope many will find some solutions for your kiddos. Irma,20,DS/ASD > > Oh Donna. This brings back horror memories. Guest guest
Thanks everyone, for your suggestions, and mostly your understanding.?? Liz, Duff and I are looking at that site.?? We will buy two of those, but one will need the tether kit for my car.??? Duff couldn't sleep last night, just worrying over her doing it.??? I keep wondering WHEN she will outgrow some of this stuff.?? She still takes off too, so we are finding ourselves on constant guard.??? I can't leave her alone for even a minute, even to go to the bathroom without paying a price, she's so mischevious.?? Karyn, I can't put her in the front seat.....she's been known to grab the wheel or the shift which is on the floor in my car.?? Also, she tries to open the door all the time, but at least in the back, we use the child locks.??Also, we have a DVD player in my car, so one of her faves is?always on.???? She still seeks *trouble*.?? ?In the meantime, she's doing great in her new classroom where she's around her peers who are all verbal and more *appropriate*.??? I am praying some of them rub off on her, but she sure does keep the staff on their toes. We are in for a rough 6 weeks, as I am going in for carpal tunnel surgery tomorrow morning.?? My right hand will be in a splint and I will be unable to bend my hand for that time....FUN!!!!! Thanks again guys, Donna Re: ? about car safety This is what helped us too, best investment purchasing our Honda Odyssey van as enjoyed sitting on the back seat over the tire where it helped stimulate that sensory input he seek. Guest guest
Donna, I bet you were terrified. Your poor thing how scarey. The bus harness where we live fastenings to hooks behind the seat and the harness zips on. Maybe something that fastens behind the seat would help. I am glad she is okay and that you did not have to get out in the rush of traffic. Cyndi B > > Maddie climbed out the car window while I was driving the other day......I'm still recovering. Guest guest
Donna, I 2nd OMG. My heart stopped for a 2nd when I started reading your post. Thank God Allie was with you at the time. I don't know of any safety harrasses. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your horror story. It seems like both & are always 1 step ahead of us, so it's good to know of all the things that MAY happen. We have both safety door lock & window lock, but obviously they can get turned off, so we have to be more aware... Guest guest
i am also glad tori is ok, . many virtual hugs for you, and a margarita to settle the nerves. nathan also outgrew this beahvior. we just didnt move the truck until he was seatbelted in. so he knows seatbelt or else no trip or pop or mcdonalds whatever it is were doing that day. he can put his on and off every well anymore. I know they make a good variety of seat harnesses, im sure someone will have a good rating on one or two here. shawna Wishing all a very Merry Chirstmas! http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: Sent: Saturday, December 13, 2008 1:08:14 PM Subject: Re: ? about car safety OMG, Donna!
