Guest guest
Woody is on the shelves again at the Honolulu Disney Store...maybe there's one by you? It is the LONG dangleable version...hey I don't know if you heard, but someone posted on the DS List recently that allowing sensory stim " erases our kids' brains. " Anyone have any thoughts on this? I just figure it helps my daughter relax. It's limited to a few minutes a day...But then again, I am a rookie at this. Wouldn't want her to erase what we've worked so hard to attain!?!?!?! Yikes! Desi Subject: Of Woody & Jessie & Ebay To: Date: Tuesday, December 9, 2008, 3:42 PM Attention to all those dear members who posted awhile back that replacement Woodys & Jessies could be found on ebay. My eternal gratitude. I think... Cause now months & many $$ later I not only have a small stash of " almost the same " Woodys & Jessies but Space Jam characters and about a gazillion other things for my son... I had never been to ebay before. Ahem. I may need intervention soon. My child will have a happy heart when Woody & Jessie finally have go to toy heavan (they are hanging on by threads)and when he sees his new obsession (Space Jam)in toy form at Xmas. From my heart to yours thank you wonderful ones! Peace. Kris
Guest guest
I am right along with Woody, Buzz Lightyear dangling toys. We still have ours since I was able to find other dangling items of various characters which worked for us but I do remember searching for them when they were missing and boy oh boy, stories. I also do Ebay which has also helped us on our mission too when on the hunt. I'll have to find my research information in regards to how stimming has helped many individuals under the autism spectrum, there are many reasons why our individuals under the autism spectrum benefit from it once able to work around from their zone/calming mode. Guest guest
well, 's brain hasn't been erased and he has had lots of fidgets and stim items in his life. Would I allow unlimited access to an object that takes all of my child's focus and eliminates attention for learning? No, but we all have our stim items in life and in balance it is OK. As far as , he can attend to many things and still play with a fidget. for a long time it was stretchy snakes and lizards. He would have them whenever he had to sit for a period of time in school. he could attend while fidgeting with them. A few got shot at the teacher but they managed. Guest guest
Hi Irma & Desi, Somewhere along the way, for DJ, these particular Woody & Jessie dolls became more than a dangle to stim with. They became his " friends " . And since they are his only friends, that is why I frantically look for replacements. The problem for us is that he rejects the ones that do not look EXACTLY like the Woody & Jessie he is attached to. Since I bought the original ones in 1997 at Blockbuster it is hard to find ones made by Applause that BB carried. Little did I know back then that I should have bought all of them... Anyway, back to the changes. It was this past summer that I discovered that Jessie & Woody could talk to DJ. I happened to hear him wake up (3:30-4am) & heard a " falsetto girl " voice say " Gmorning DJ " & a " mannish " voice say " Gmorning DJ " . And DJ said " Goodmorning Jessie & Woody " I stayed in my bed listening to whole conversations between the three & I cried. I cried because DJ COULD use pretend voices & NO ONE knew. I cried because he has no one to play with except my grandchildren on rare visits or me. I cried because most of his speech was clear enough to understand. And I cried in joy. It was the summer before last that I bought him some Barbie furniture for Woody & Jessie (kitchen & bed & folding house)because he saw it on the internet & asked in martian, sign & pantomine. Since he had NEVER asked for ANYTHING I amazoned it to the doorstep asap. Woody & Jessie eat with him, watch him play games or TV & go to the store & all the doctors with him. Thanks to the people on this board I learned about ebay & found little foods just like DJ eats as well as realistic dollhouse stuff & " not exactly the same " Woody & Jessie dolls. Most I am saving for Xmas but the tiny oatmeals & cheese-et box & Japanese noodles I gave to him early for rewards or whatever. Imagine chunky DS fingers setting a Barbie table with tiny dishes & silverware or chopstix. Imagine the same chunky fingers tucking a fake flower in Jessies hair. Imagine the same fingers putting a little apron on Jessie & trying to tie it & succeeding to a degree. Imagine that DS body carrying the set table to another room & setting it down. And doing so PERFECTLY without ever being shown or helped. Imagine how mad my husband is at me for spending alot of $$ on ebay doll stuff & imagine how I don't even care because I am witnessing a miracle of evolution that I never thought to see or hear. All because of a Woody & Jessie doll & people I don't know sharing their stories about Woodys & Jessies & ebay. DJ is 13 & mostly silent & never pretend played with toys (unless modeled) in the 11 years I have been with him. At least that any of us were ever aware of. He'd just spin & dangle Woody & Jessie. The only time I see him dangle these guys now is never. Peace. Kris (who prays that this Woody & Jessie lasts awhile longer) > > > > Woody is on the shelves again at the Honolulu Disney Store...maybe > there's one by you? Guest guest
i think nathan needs to stim at least some time during the day, i will let him in the evening for a little while if he chooses, as this makes him happy and calm, i wouldnt want someone to take away my quilting or knitting etc. but if i feel its becoming too time consuming i will redirect to a different activity, and through the years nathan has become very good at stopping and switching to another activity with no complaints. i dont knw if this ruins his memory or not, i tend to think not. he remembers many things forever it seems like, lol. he has a hard time with many words but he has always been more of a jock type not an academic type, and is eager to still read with me on the nights im home, not working. shawna Wishing all a very Merry Chirstmas! http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: Sent: Wednesday, December 10, 2008 12:27:51 PM Subject: Re: Woody at Disney Store!/Stim? Guest guest
Kris, this is just too cute and you caught him in action even though you overheard his conversation, this is incredible. Might have to place a hidden camera to catch him and pray that you get this on video. Oh, what joy indeed, definitely best investment, all worth it!!!
