Guest guest
When do our kiddos first lose their teeth? Is it later than " typical " kids? will be 6 on Christmas Eve, so I just started thinking about it. Guest guest
My dentist told me that kids with DS lose their teeth later than NT kids - Elie lost his first tooth at 7. But he is also missing (I think) 6 secondary teeth. And that is not just a DS thing. My birth son is missing 14 secondary teeth! Seems to be a mutation which isn;t that uncommon. > When do our kiddos first lose their teeth? Is it later than " typical " > kids? > will be 6 on Christmas Eve, so I just started thinking about it. Guest guest
it was much later for nathan, didnt even get teeth until after he turned 1yr old, the dentist said the longer it takes to get them the longer they last. which must be true he is 17 and still not a one cavity ever. do remember though many individuals with ds dont have a few permanent teeth under the babies, so wont lose then as nothing to push them out. nathan never lost one without the dentist's help either. shawna Wishing all a very Merry Chirstmas! http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: DS-Autism < > Sent: Sunday, December 7, 2008 9:11:39 PM Subject: curious about teeth When do our kiddos first lose their teeth? Guest guest
My dentist also told me that for some reason kids with DS do not get as many cavities as other kids. Make has still only lost a few teeth at age 9. Holly
Guest guest
I got the same answer from our Dentist and Austin is actually just now getting his last tooth (primary) we thought that it would never come in. That was also what the dentist was thinking then this summer we happened to see that it was coming through (it started well before school and is not in yet) it takes a LONGGGG time for his teeth to come in!. On the other side my daught who is 9 did not loose her first tooth until 2 grade (she was 7 1/2) so you never know. Guest guest
The issue with DS is that the teeth are fine - but the gums are more susceptible to gum disease and THEN the teeth fall out. > My dentist also told me that for some reason kids with DS do not get as > many cavities as other kids. Guest guest
yes, nathan went through a bout of gingivitis a while back, and since he doesnt understand mouth wash, we just dipped his tooth brush very well in listerine and then put toothpaste as usual on his brush, this helped tremendously. Remember there are other mouth washes out there too, we just feel listerine works the best for us. shawna Wishing all a very Merry Chirstmas! http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: Sent: Monday, December 8, 2008 4:09:00 PM Subject: Re: curious about teeth The issue with DS is that the teeth are fine - but the gums are more susceptible to gum disease and THEN the teeth fall out.
