Guest guest
Louise, Sorry to hear that this was just not one of those years for . We just never know what kind of day it is going to be with our individuals and of course never ends figuring out what is going on. Where o'where is that magical pill? At the clinic attends with his IV Chelation treatments he is given a double doze of Uridine which supposedly helps decrease dementia which the medical team has learn about it being part of some of the Down syndrome traits. Who knows if I will be around should this happen but will make sure that my 2 other sons, grandson & a couple of my nephews who are actually already receiving some hands on training on attending to , their choice. So whatever happens when no longer around they will be my circle of care for . This is actually their choice as long as it does not interfere too much with their agenda which I have thrown their way. Guess it helps also to be one of the favorite Aunt who is always there for those who are on the right track, where they will repay by being on standby. Please keep us posted on the latest update once undergoes through the MRI. Prayers that all will go well and with his visit along with figuring out what is going on. How does behave with his medical appointments? Do one of the appointed staff end up taking him for his medical appointments? Prayers that Andy's cataract surgery will be a success just as your was. That is wonderful how you manage well afterwards and may it continue. I know Jim misses the snow sometimes but then when he hears his family out there in Indiana, he'll tell me something like " Now I know why I moved out here to Texas " . Yes, because he met me. : ) Today, Jim had asked if we were planning on going to Chicago in May? Told him that I still have to wait and see, guess it is sort of becoming a ritual to visit his family but we shall see as I may have return part time to school and this will be his last school year since he is coming along health wise. Knock on wood too, do not want to jinx anything. Irma,20,DS/ASD > > Hi Irma, > > > > We are hanging in there. It has been a rough year for , aggression, questioning dementia, med changes and next week a brain MRI. We will go from there. We have had good support from his staff but we disagree on some levels that we will work out. > > Yes, we had our first snow and it is cold today. More on its way. I love the beautiful snow at times but if I have to go out I don't. Andy is finishing up having his cataract surgery each eye over a month and loves it he can see clearer now. I know after mine last year it was great to see so clear. One of the easiest things I've ever done. > > > > Happy holidays, > > > > Louise, 46, DS, Deaf, ASD >
Guest guest
Hi Irma, does well with his medical appointments if he is prepared what will be happening. I made a picture schedule for him (sent copies to his home and workshop) and a couple weeks ago when home began to talk to him. Sat we went to the Holiday Breakfast with Santa that was held in the lunchroom of 's workshop. was there with his group but sat with us for breakfast. He was in a good mood and signed MRI to me and showed IV. When I saw that I could tell his staff had been talking to him about it as when I first signed MRI to him he signed it but when he wanted to sign it again he just signed I. As I always say it takes repetition of something for to get it and someone was working with him. Also we went over to his unit and saw his calendar all set up with the pictures for the MRI tom. We always take to appointments. The agency staff would do that but I want to, part the nurse in me, as I want to know what is said and done. Andy is finished with his cataract surgery and will get new glasses in a week. He wouldn't really need them for driving as it has a very small correction. The technician said that older people who have worn glasses for so long want to continue to wear glasses as they do need the glasses for close reading and it is too much of a bother to take them on and off. That's how I was and Andy agrees also. Guest guest
Hi Louise, sorry just getting back. I am glad that when has his medical appointments that the visual support has helped and glad he was able to communicate signing where you understood that he was being prepared, this is good. Could agree, this works for too, it must be repetitive to make some connection and process whatever I would like for him to know what is going on. This has decrease some anxiety issues, lately been pretty cooperative getting up early in the morning for his appointments out at the clinic out in Austin which is like a 70 to 90 mile drive. Which is early in the morning and get back some time in the evening. He still has some meltdowns but other I'll take this versus what he went through his health issues and need to work around when needed applying some of the interventions that use to be applied in the past, usually requires working around with his mode of the moment then he is fine and gives me a smile, eye contact and then has vocalized " What? " Hope all goes well for . Yes, I figure you would take him, due to the nurse who you, even when retired. Glad to read Andy's update, glad all went well. Take care and stay warm.
