Dear Belinda -

Thank you for describing how I sometimes felt as we await diagnosis of our 4 1/2

yr old son (an 8 month wait list doesn't help).  I think it's pretty common part

of the process.  When I first realized he could be autistic it was like a

lightbulb going on and it just fit.  But then sometimes he'd have a good day and

I would think " hmmm maybe, just maybe he won't 'pass' the test " and maybe he's

just quirky and eccentric...maybe I'm looking too hard. We also moved houses and

he was unsettled for about 3 months, so I could wonder if it was the new home.

But as the months go by, I notice that the good days are usually when he has

been the least stimulated and his routine had been followed and his therapists

and teachers have all been working so hard to help him and the truth is that

even if he doesn't pass the test - the therapies that work for him are the ones

that work for kids with autism, so really he's somewhere on the continuum.

Take care,

Belinda,

You are doing the RIGHT thing! If you even suspect something may be going

on with your child, the best thing you can do is have her seen by an

intervention team that can help put you on the right path. As a member OF

an intervention team, all I can say is the earlier a child gets appropriate

servcies, the better their chance of making significant improvements....and

the first step to getting appropriate services is to have a good, solid

assessment stating exactly what Jemma needs. Good luck with the

evaluation. If you have any questions regarding terminology, feel free to

sent me an email.

Best,

Jen
