Guest guest
Breathe...yes, I can do that. I took him into school this a.m. after watching him walk all over the house this morning before school, me following him and him looking at me like I am crazy - well, I am, so he's dead on with that one! Things looked the same so off to school we went. I told school just to keep an eye on him and if there was signifigant change one way or the other to call. 1:15pm I got a call. Of course I'm at the grocery store with the worlds largest grocery run in my cart. He had cried at one point in the day. Then before recess, a time when he normally runs to get to his locker to get his coat, he went to take a step and cried out, " OW! " , then his leg sort of gave out and he fell down to the ground. He went out to recess and did an even odder limp carrying his leg around the outside of his body... I called the doc, got another appt and headed to school to pick him up. Of course in true Hickey fashion, I get a call from Emma on the way over that she's sick! I grab her, take her home, get her on the couch, put away the cold stuff and frozen stuff, tell her to hang tough til gets home, race to J's school to pick him up, 20 minutes late! I call the doc and tell them I'm running late - story of my life! Got to the doc and got " the look " from the nurse we saw yesterday. I let it roll right off my back. No time for you or your thoughts lady. Saw a different doc again - super nice guy! We took off his shoe to find a red area on his second toe at the base where it meets the foot and it's swollen! I've never been so happy to see a red mark! The doc was awesome. He put my mind to rest that I wasn't insane to have the thoughts I was having. He thoroughly looked him over, and decided we'd start with a foot x-ray as we have a visible mark now. He agreed his gait was off. We went and had the x-ray at the hospital and J was so good for it. I love that boy! The doctor is going to look at the x-ray himself and call me tonight either way. If there's nothing on the x-ray, we'll go with ice and motrin. If it gets worse, then we'll do further imaging, labs, etc. I feel much better! I'm not worried about leukemia as much anymore now that I can visibly see something! Plus he's pointed at the same spot several times now when I ask where his owie is. Progress! I can't thank you all enough for your advice. Dr. Holly, I was so mad at myself last night for not speaking up and insisting on a CBC yesterday. If there hadn't been a mark today, I would have pushed for the CBC ASAP. The doctor fully agreed. He looked at the rash and said to keep up with the Lotrimin and add some cortisone - wasn't too worried about it.. a little contact dermititis with a fungus mixed with some folliculitis on his bottom. Emma is hanging tough, laying on the couch and seems to be holding steady. I felt so bad leaving her but came home and tended to her before Basketball. Without , we've gotta work together to keep this machine moving! LOL! When I hear from the Doc I will let you all know... Thanks again for the " ear " , prayers, kind words, thoughts, opinions, and SUPPPORT! breathing again, Jayne
