Guest guest
Hi I'm still trying to come up with reasons for Amy's constant head banging lately. I was interested in the suggestion of possible migraines. I suffer from migraines and could see why she would bang her head if she has one. I'm just curious as to how they diagnose migraines in non-verbal kids. I know I am Amy's only voice but I just feel like the doctors are starting to think I am a neurotic mom. I keep telling them that something is wrong with her and it is not just her pylorus needing to be stretched and it is not just autistic behaviours. I really feel like something is bugging her and she just can't tell us what it is. I keep calling and/or e-mailing but it just seems like they don't believe me. So, I would just like some more info on migraines or sinuses before I bring this possibility to the doctors. Are there any tests I can request that will diagnose this? She is banging her head to the point that she has a huge goose egg on the side of her head and she continues to bang her head in that spot still. I am starting to get very frustrated with our medical doctors and it just seems like they don't know what it is so they are just ignoring us now. At first, they seemed to believe me and did blood tests and an MRI etc and they always reveal nothing so now they just kind of strug their shoulders at us. I gave them the suggestions that many of you have given me and they never seem concerned about it. I just keep getting my hopes up that this time they will figure her out and then nothing!! She had a great summer and was happy and making progress but since September she has gone down hill again. Nothing has changed in her diet or routine (other then going back to school which she loves) since September so I'm not sure what to make of this dramatic change in her behaviour. Thanks for listening and any suggestions. Ali --------------------------------- Yahoo! Canada Toolbar : Search from anywhere on the web and bookmark your favourite sites. Download it now! Guest guest
Ali, Get her a helmet. It took us a couple of days to get to wear it. This is to be an adversion. If she does not want to wear the helmet she will learn not to bang her head and if she still bangs at least her head will be protected. WE had to get a soft shell helmet or would have broke the window out of the car. Medicaid will pay for the helmet. The helmet was $150.00 and comes with straps so they cannot take it off. I suffer with migraines and yes if they are not well the head banging can get to the point they do damage to themselves. once broke his own nose. Despite the fact I had him to the Dr. everyday that week, then the emerency room, then finally one of the Dr. sent him for a sinuse x-ray.Guess what he had a severe sinus infection and it was not hormones as one Dr. tried to convince me. The Dr. said his sinus pressure was giving him a migraine. I kept being persistant and I would keep telling the Dr.'s the same thing over and over. I know my child and he is banging his head because something is wrong and guess what it was. Not that this will be your situation but they can do EEG's & CAt scan of the head. If the person knows what they are doing they can tell the child is having a migrain.Oh they can put the child to sleep to do both. Some of these kids do head bang but when it gets more intense and more frequent when in doubt have it checked out.
