participating in class and she mostly has melt downs when she goes

into the

sped room for her IEP goal time. She mimics behaviors and the

classmates in

the sped class have alot of extreme behaviors. My goal is for her to be in

the regular classroom all day with IEP push in time. That is a going to be

a battle but one I am willing to take on.

Nori -

Good for you.

Your daughter is communicating very clearly that the pull out

environment is difficult for her. Is anyone - besides you -

documenting this? It's a strong statement.

Why can her goals not be met in teh general ed setting? Is it the gap

in skills, lack of creativity, or does she do best with the 1:1

education related to the goals?

Are they using visuals to help her understand the concepts in the

classroom? Some social stories or visual pre-teaching stories?

What does she do well? Have you tried listing " what works " and " what

does not work " for her learning?

She is eight, is that right? So second or third grade? Completely

modifiable curriculum! Does she have a circle of friends set up at

school? A way for her to make friends who aren't adults?

Last...

I will include this not just to you, Nori, but to all..(I feel like

I've been saying it all night):

I appreciate and desire everyone's support with Mom, but it does NOT

mean I cannot choose to be engaged with you all. For obvious reasons,

I've been paying attention to the list the last two days. I won't keep

this level of engagement up. But it is also clear that a wound has

been opened and need to be addressed. Part of what needs to be

addressed are your concerns for your child.

If you'd prefer to talk privately, email me off list at

joan@.... I'll answer as I can. I appreciate

that you don't want to share too much " publicly. " I don't share a lot

about Andy, specifically, either. I understand. Teh article is the

most open I've been since I began Disability Solutions in 1995.

Take care,

Joan
